Sergei Vladimirovich Loznitsa today is a fairly popular Ukrainian documentary filmmaker, who was born on September 5, 1964 in the Brest region (Belarus). In the Ukrainian city of Kiev he graduated from high school and entered the Polytechnic Institute at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Control Systems. In 1987, Sergei successfully graduated from the institute and defended his diploma.

For the next four years, Loznitsa worked at the Institute of Cybernetics as a research assistant, where he was engaged in the development of decision-making systems, expert systems and artificial intelligence problems. In parallel with his scientific activities, Sergei worked as a translator of the Japanese language. But nevertheless, Sergei Vladimirovich decides to change his profession and in 1991 enters the film directing department at VGIK (All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography). And already in 1997 he graduated with honors.

After graduation, Loznitsa did not have the opportunity to shoot action films. Since 2000, he started working in St. Petersburg in a documentary film studio. The first script of the film "In the Fog" based on the story by Vasily Bykov, Sergei Vladimirovich wrote only in 2001. In the same year, Sergei emigrated with his family to Germany. There were plenty of reasons to leave: it was related to work, and Sergei was madly anxious to know the world.

He often repeats that when you start shooting a movie, you should be absolutely ready to take on a lot of responsibility. Sergei piece by piece collects footage of Soviet newsreels, he draws his archival materials from a documentary film studio. Filming most often takes place in the provincial cities of the country. Loznitsa continues to write scripts and shoot documentaries to this day, is a laureate of the Russian national awards "Laurel" and "Nika", winner of international awards.
