In 1985, Vladimir Menshov's picture "Love and Doves" was released in the Soviet film distribution. The film was shot in two places at once: the shooting of the village life of Vasily Kuzyakin took place in Karelia, and the marine shooting took place on the Black Sea, in Batumi.

Shooting of the village life of Vasily took place in the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, in a town called Medvezhyegorsk. It is located on the shores of Lake Onega, not far from the Kumsy River. It was on the bank of the Kumsa that the house stood, in which the Kuzyakin family lived according to the script. In 2011, it burned down, and now a private cottage has been built in its place.
About 15,000 people live in modern Medvezhyegorsk, there is a dairy plant, a timber harvesting and processing enterprise, a port, several hotels and tourist complexes. In addition to the film "Love and Doves", films such as "And Trees Grow on the Stones", "The Piranha Hunt" and "The Fourth Height" were filmed here.
Batumi
When Vladimir Menshov needed to film Kuzyakin's trip to the sea, the film crew moved to Batumi. At the time when the cameramen filmed bathing Kuzyakin and Raisa Zakharovna, it was November in Batumi, and the sea water temperature was 14 ° C above zero. By the way, in Medvezhyegorsk at the time of filming it was also not hot - the average temperature of the warmest summer month here rarely exceeds 16 ° C.
Prototypes
"Love and Doves" is based on the real story of the Kuzyakin family. The scriptwriter Vladimir Gurkin was personally acquainted with Nadezhda and Vasily Kuzyakin, who served as prototypes for the heroes of the film. Nadezhda and Vasily lived in the Irkutsk region, in the city of Cheremkhovo. Now in this village there is a monument to the heroes of the picture.
For the first time on the Soviet screens the film "Love and Doves" was released in 1985. Since then, it has been watched by over 44 million people. In the same 1985, the film received the prestigious Golden Boat Award, and a year later, Love and Doves was already shown in Finnish and Hungarian cinemas. In 2009, the film was awarded the MTV Russia award as one of the best films of the Soviet era.
