A few years after the birth of their second child, the family broke up, the parents divorced and James was raised by his grandparents.

After the beginning of his acting career, the young man entered the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and Music to get an acting education.

But after the start of training at the academy, there was a long break in the filming process. McAvoy returned to cinema in the early 2000s, receiving several roles in TV series and minor roles in films.

James got the main role in the film "And in my soul I dance", where he embodied on the screen the image of a disabled young man. This film has earned critical acclaim and was named one of the best films in Ireland.

A year later, McAvoy was invited to shoot the first film "The Chronicles of Narnia", and then to the picture "The Last King of Scotland." For this work, the actor was nominated for a British Film Academy Award. Two years later, he became an EMPIRE magazine award winner and a Golden Globe nominee for the lead role in Atonement, partnering with Keira Knightley.

The next work was the fantastic action "Wanted" with McAvoy and Angelina Jolie, and the biopic "The Last Resurrection" about the life and work of Leo Tolstoy, filmed by Russian, German and British filmmakers.

From that moment on, the actor's popularity is growing every day and he is offered many new projects, including: "The Conspirator", "Dirt", "Welcome to the Trap", "Trance".

Personal life

James's first love was named Emma Nelson. He met a girl during his school years. For several years they had a serious romance, and they even lived together for a while. When Emma left James, he was very upset by the breakup, which led to depression, creative crisis and addiction to alcohol.

A few years later, James meets the actress Anne-Mary Duff, with whom he is officially married two years later. They had a son, Brandan, and six years later the couple broke up, while maintaining a fairly good, friendly relationship, thanks more to their little son, who is raised together.
