Today Minsk is the largest city in the Republic of Belarus. Its population is about two million. Currently, there are several points of view on how to call its inhabitants. Let's describe some of them.

Step 1
The formation of ethnohoronyms (names of residents of a certain area) sometimes involves some difficulties, since not all toponyms can be used to form names. The very name of the capital of the Republic of Belarus at first raises a lot of questions among the guests of the city - since it is not entirely clear which word should be used to refer to local residents. However, if you know the rules of the Russian language, you can easily form ethno-burial from the word "Minsk".
Step 2
In Russian, there are several suffixes for the formation of ethnohoronyms from the name of a particular city. Traditionally, it is believed that for toponyms ending in -tsk and -sk, the suffixes -an- and -yan- are most often used. In particular, the suffix -an- is characteristic for a name ending in a combination of consonants -sk. Words with this suffix are often extended -ч-, and as a result, the suffix takes the form -chan-.
Step 3
We use the suffix way of word formation in relation to the name of the city of Minsk. Discarding the last two consonants, we add the suffix to the stem of the noun, and we get the word "Minsk residents". Accordingly, the word denoting a resident of Minsk will be the word “Minsker”, and the word denoting a resident will be “Minsker”.
Step 4
There is a curious word "minchuk" - at the same time it is both a surname in use in the western part of Belarus and the Rivne region of Ukraine, and an original ethno-burial name. Thus, if we use this word in the plural, we get the word “minchuki”. This noun can also be safely used to refer to residents of the Belarusian capital.
