  • - notarized translation of a foreign passport;
  • - residence permit in the Russian Federation;
  • - confirmation of the existence of a legitimate source of income: a certificate from a job about a salary or from a bank about the balance on your account in the amount of at least 12 living wages in the region of residence at the time of contact;
  • - confirmation of the application for renunciation of the existing other citizenship;
  • - a document confirming knowledge of the Russian language;
  • - confirmation of the fact of renouncing the citizenship of the Russian Federation or an appeal to the competent authority (FMS or diplomatic mission) about unwillingness to be a citizen of the Russian Federation;
  • - receipt of payment of state duty.

Instructions

Step 1

Contact the FMS department or the nearest Russian consulate to clarify the list of necessary documents for your case and receive recommendations where you can get them.

Step 2

Make a notarized translation of your foreign passport (personal details and a page with a residence permit) if you have a different citizenship. You will be helped with this at any Russian translation agency or directly at a consular office outside the Russian Federation.

Step 3

Prepare a document confirming that you have a legal source of income in the Russian Federation. This can be a certificate from the place of work or a statement of the balance on a bank account. Please note that in the first case, only official income is taken into account, since certificates from work must be checked through the tax office. If the official income is lower than the real one and it is not enough, it is preferable to present a bank statement. Sufficient income is considered to be not less than the subsistence level. Its value is set for each region once a quarter. The amount that is current at the time of the request will be prompted by the Federal Migration Service or the statistics department. On a bank account, you must have an amount of at least 12 monthly living wages: based on a year.

Step 4

Submit an application for withdrawal from your existing foreign citizenship to the competent authority of the relevant country or its nearest consulate in the Russian Federation and take there confirmation of the fact of your appeal on this issue. What documents can be accepted in this capacity, check with the Russian consulate or the FMS department where you plan to apply with an application or petition for the restoration of citizenship.

Step 5

Make a copy of your education certificate if it contains information that you studied Russian. If this document is issued by a foreign country, make it a notarized translation into Russian. In the absence of such a document, you will have to pass an exam in the Russian language and get a certificate about it. Where is it better to apply for such a purpose, they will tell you at the consulate of the Russian Federation or a department of the FMS.

Step 6

Fill out an application for restoration of citizenship. You can take its form from the FMS department or consulate, from a company that offers services for filling out documents for the FMS (you will also fill it out there for a fee) or download it electronically from the websites of the FMS departments and Russian diplomatic missions abroad.

Step 7

In person or by mail, contact the competent authority through which you renounced the citizenship of the Russian Federation, and receive confirmation that you have completed this procedure.

Step 8

Pay the state fee or consular fee. You can find out the details in the FMS department, and pay at any branch of the Sberbank of the Russian Federation. Specify the procedure for paying the consular fee at the specific consulate.

Step 9

Submit a full package of documents to the FMS department or consulates and wait for a decision.
