"Prometheus" - one of the most anticipated projects of 2012 - keeps a secret that is not obvious to the average viewer. The film, in fact, is the backstory (or offshoot) of the cult Alien series, and provides answers to many fan questions that have accumulated over the fifteen years since the release of the last part.
Instructions
Step 1
The starting point is the 1979 film Alien. A certain ship, working for the Wayland Corporation, receives a request for help from an unknown planet. Descending to the surface, the heroes find a huge transport ship of an unknown alien race, on board which are stored dozens of xenomorph eggs (ie, actually, "aliens") and a dead three-meter pilot, rooted in the control chair. Not a word is said about the alien in the film, but Ridley Scott himself called the character "Jockey".
Step 2
In "Prometheus" the action develops in the same setting, but earlier by about 30 years. People have already created synthetics (humanoid robots, found in all parts of the series). Wayland Corporation already exists and is sending an expedition to a distant star in search of the creatures that created the human race. Upon arrival, the astronauts find the recognizable bodies of jockeys: it turns out that the skeletal appearance is just a spacesuit, under which the aliens are quite similar to humans. At the same time, in one of the rooms, on the wall engravings, you can see a creature that vaguely resembles a xenomorph. The entire fauna of the planet, presented in the film, has a structure similar to xenomorphs; multiple parallels can be drawn.
Step 3
It turns out that the object found by people is a military base on which dozens of ships are located. From this we can conclude that the transport found in "Alien" was military, and the xenomorphs themselves were weapons (this version was repeatedly mentioned in all films of the series).
Step 4
The director has repeatedly stated in an interview that he is making a film about jockeys, not strangers. Therefore, the main part of the action is aimed at telling an independent story - it is the development of the universe, but has no direct connection with the original quadrilogy.
Step 5
One of the jockeys in Prometheus turns out to be alive. In the finale, he enters into a fight with a huge squid-like creature and dies, after which one of the main intrigues of the picture is revealed: just before the credits, an adult xenomorph, different from all those shown in previous films, breaks out of the jockey's body. Since the theme of "spacesuits" is raised several times in "Prometheus", it is possible that jockeys are something like a "shell" for a special kind of intelligent xenomorphs, but this cannot be said for sure.
