If you want the names of people dear to you to be remembered during a prayer service, liturgy or funeral service, write the appropriate notes in advance and put them in a special box or give them to a church minister. There are rules for drafting such notes, which should be followed.
Instructions
Step 1
Approaching the table at which the notes are being written, look around. Some churches, taking care of the parishioners, post the rules of writing notes in a prominent place. You may be asked to make a list of names on a special form pre-titled "For health" or "For peace." You just have to enter the names of relatives and friends in them.
Step 2
Some parishioners prefer to write notes at home, in a relaxed atmosphere - this makes it easier to concentrate and not forget any of their relatives. On big church holidays, this approach is quite justified - sometimes on such days it can be difficult to approach the table for notes.
Step 3
Write names clearly, in legible handwriting. When in doubt that your writing style will be understood, write the note in block letters. Use a bright ink pen. Write down the names in a column, indicating them in the genitive case.
Step 4
Learn in advance how to spell secular names correctly. Instead of Sergei, Sergius should be indicated, Polina should be replaced with Appolinaria, and Oksana - with Xenia. If the person was given a different name when they were baptized, write it down. Do not abbreviate names, use their full form, even for children.
Step 5
The notes do not indicate patronymics, surnames, degree of kinship, titles and military ranks. However, special notes are allowed in some cases. For example, when referring to children, you can indicate “infant” (if we are talking about a child under 7 years old) or “adolescent” (referring to children under 15 years old). You can write a note about the health or rest of the "warrior", "prisoner", "traveler", "monk" or "nun." If we are talking about a clergyman, it is permissible to indicate his rank, in full or in an understandable abbreviation.
Step 6
When composing a memorial note, mark the “newly departed” if less than 40 days have passed since the day of death, “ever-memorable” (deceased, having memorable dates on a specific day) or “murdered”. Please note that in the notes about the repose, it is customary to indicate only the deceased, baptized in the Orthodox Church.
