Catholicism is the largest denomination within Christianity. And many people who were born outside this religious tradition would like to become a member of this church. How can this be done?
Instructions
Step 1
Find the Catholic Church closest to where you live. It can be found through the websites of the Catholic archdioceses. For example, this site provides a list of Catholic parishes and churches in Central Russia, including Moscow - https://www.cathmos.ru/content/ru/section-2009-10-28-12-43-31.html. The coordinates of churches in Siberia and the Far East can be found on the websites of other archdioceses.
Step 2
Meet with the priest of the church you found. Usually on the building itself, where the services are held, there is information about when the priest is available for conversation. Discuss your desire to convert to Catholicism with him. Be prepared to answer questions about the reason for such a step on your part, because the adoption of a new religion is a serious step that requires meaningfulness.
Step 3
Your further actions will depend on which religion you belonged to earlier. People baptized according to the Orthodox rite should not undergo this procedure again in a Catholic church. However, every new Catholic convert will need to undergo catechesis. It usually takes the form of a class, during which the priest brings the theoretical and practical aspects of the Catholic faith to the audience. Training can be both group and individual, depending on the number of applicants and the possibilities of the parish. The result of catechesis is the sacrament of confirmation, which is designed to confirm a person's conscious decision to come to faith.
Step 4
If you have not been baptized within the framework of another branch of Christianity, then you will need to go through this sacrament. In preparation for it, a person must also acquire knowledge of Catholicism. Usually, all training takes about one year, but variations are possible at the discretion of the confessor. According to the results of the entire course, a person should know the "Symbol of Faith", as well as other basic dogmas of the Catholic Church.
