Biography
Dmitry Glukhovsky was born in Moscow in the summer of 1979. His father was a poet and journalist, and the boy, from childhood, took a special interest in his father's typewriter.
Dmitry successfully graduated from high school with an in-depth study of the French language and entered the University of Jerusalem, preparing to become an international journalist.
Glukhovsky received a good education, speaks five languages. In 2002, the future writer moved to France and began working on the EuroNews television channel.
In 2005 Dmitry returned to Russia and became a correspondent on the Russia Today channel. He was part of a journalistic group that covered the activities of the country's president, conducted live reports from hot spots (Abkhazia, Chernobyl, Israeli Kiryat Shmon).
In addition, the Glukhovsky year lived in Germany, collaborating with the channels Deutsche Welle and Sky News (Great Britain). Since 2007, he worked as a presenter on Mayak radio, and in 2009 he began to host the popular science program Fantastic Breakfast from the PostTV Internet channel.
As for the writer's personal life, he is married to Elena, his former TV colleague. The couple are raising two children.
Writing activity
Glukhovsky began writing his first stories at the age of ten. The style of his works was greatly influenced by the books of cult science fiction writers: the Strugatsky brothers, Lem Azimov, Kir Bulychev, Bradbury and others.
Over time, Dmitry began to try his hand at writing small novels.
By 2002, Glukhovsky finished his first serious and in the future, which has become a cult work, Metro 2033. However, all publishers to which the author sent the manuscript refused to publish the novel. After that, the writer did an unprecedented act at that time - he published the novel on the Internet. The reviews were amazing, the book became a real bestseller.
In 2005 it was published by the well-known publishing house "Eksmo", in 2007 another circulation was published by the publishing house "Popular Literature", and now "Metro 2033" is published by the publishing house "AST".
Currently, the novel has been translated into more than 30 foreign languages, and its circulation has already exceeded a million copies and is being sold out all over the world with great success.
The plot of the book became the basis for three video games, and a few years ago the Hollywood film studio MGM bought the rights to film it. Now we are actively preparing for filming.
In 2007, Glukhovsky's new novel "Twilight" was released. In terms of its style, this work is not similar to the previous works of the author. In the same year, the writer was awarded the best debut award.
In 2009, Metro 2034 comes out - a parallel story from the Metro Universe. The book was also a great success and was published in huge print runs.
In 2010, the book "Stories about the Motherland", rather unusual for the author's usual style, was published. The piece is an aggressive mix of realism and phantasmagoria.
In 2015, the author closed the trilogy about the post-apocalyptic Metro Universe, publishing the final novel Metro 2035. The book was very controversially received by fans of the saga and received a number of negative reviews.
The writer is currently working on new novels and is a columnist for Snob and GQ.
