In 2013, Andres Muschetti's dramatic horror film Mama was released. The new horror film, which tells about the really terrible power of mother's love, has collected a large number of positive reviews from horror fans. An important role in the success of the film was played by the participation in its filming of the famous Mexican director Guillermo del Toro.
The history of the creation of "Mama"
The film "Mama" was based on the short film of the same name, which lasts three minutes. Andres Muschetti shot it in 2008, spending 40 thousand euros on the shooting and involving such actresses as Irma Monroig, Victoria Harris and Bertu Ros in the short film. In 2013, on the basis of his three-minute film, Muschetti shot a full-length version, in which quite popular actors were filmed today.
Spanish and Canadian filmmakers took part in the filming process, which ensured the film's high quality plot.
Muschetti invited the handsome Dane Nicholas Coster-Waldau, who played Jaime Lanister in the mega-popular TV series Game of Thrones, and the American actress Jessica Chastain, known to a wide audience for the movie "The Drunkest District in the World," for the leading roles in Mama. The orphaned girls in the film were played by Isabelle Nelisse and Megan Charpentier, young aspiring actresses who have already played vivid roles in episodes of famous modern TV series.
Description of the horror film "Mom"
In the story, in an abandoned forest hut, the police find two feral girls who got there under unexplained circumstances. The little ones are taken to him by their only relative, who, with his informal girlfriend, tries to give the girls the maximum amount of love and care. However, over time, the orphans begin to behave strangely, claiming that a certain “mother” comes to them, who plays with them and protects them from the world around them.
Until the end of the film, the director does not demonstrate the appearance of the mother, showing her through the eyes of a younger girl who sees poorly and takes off her glasses so as not to see the creature's frightening face.
The uncle of the little ones tries to find at least some kind of contact with them, but the girls stubbornly do not trust anyone except the mysterious mother, who seems to be angry with the man's attempts to get closer to the sisters. The ghost begins to manifest itself, frightening his girlfriend. As a result, she cannot withstand the psychological stress and begins to look for the reason for the appearance of her mother, gradually unraveling the tangle of a scary story about a crazy woman who once killed herself and her child. But what does a mother want from two orphaned children who do not belong to her? The answer to this question can be obtained only by watching the film "Mama", which inspires horror with its story and tragic denouement.
