Nadezhda Maltseva is a translator and poet. Her poems were published in Russia and the USA. He is a laureate of the Silver Age Prize for 2011. Author of the books Smoke of the Fatherland and Obsessive Motive.
Biography of Nadezhda Elizarovna Pupko began in Moscow in 1945. The future poet was born on April 12. Her father was a native of the Old Believer Trans-Baikal family Elizar Maltsev. Fame was brought to him by the "collective farm" novels written in Soviet times. At one time, films were made based on his works, plays and operas were written.
Vocation
The girl's creativity manifested itself early. The girl showed her poetic experiments to Anna Akhmatova. The poet was struck by the unexpectedly sad and grown-up poems of a fifteen-year-old girl. Akhmatova noted their maturity. After the approval of the venerable author, Nadya admitted that now she wants to write even more. Also early, Nadya began to publish.
The famous poet Semyon Kirsanov himself took the essay of the novice author to the capital's annual almanac "Poetry Day". Five poems were published in the popular magazine Yunost. After fierce responses to the works of the "new sixteen-year-old Akhmatova" by the famous Russian translator and poet Alexei Markov, the publication of Maltseva's works stopped for a long time.
Nadezhda's works were published in samizdat. So, her collection "Bench and Arbat" became famous in a handwritten version. The first and second acts of the Taganka theater performance "Ten days that shook the world", first shown on April 2, 1965, were opened with poems by Maltseva.
The girl remembered the advice given to her by Akhmatova to learn languages and began to work in Latvian and Lithuanian, translating the works of Baltic poets. In 1977, the poet-translator was admitted to the Union of Writers of the USSR.
Family and creativity
Changes have taken place in Nadezhda's personal life. She became the wife of the writer Caesar Mikhailovich Golodny, a translator of Ingush and Chechen poetry. The new chosen one of the poetess was the science fiction writer Yevgeny Vitkovsky, known as a literary critic, translator, and poet.
For publication, the writer prepared an anthology of poetry from the Russian diaspora in four volumes under the heading "We were living on another planet at that time." He collected works by Georgy Ivanov in three volumes, Ivan Elagin's works in two, and Arseny Nesmelov's works in one.
Witkowski acted as a commentator and compiler of publications by Rimbaud, Burns, Baudelaire, Kipling and other foreign authors. Due to the fact that her husband corresponded with many émigré poets, Maltseva's works came to them. Since the nineties, the writer began to print again at home.
In 1990 her selections appeared in the Druzhba Narodov publication and the Poetry Day almanac. In the only feminist almanac "Transfiguration" that has ever seen the light of day, there were also poems by Nadezhda Elizarovna. For a long time, due to health problems and treatment, the poetess did not write.
Confession
By the mid-nineties, Maltseva's writings were constantly published in popular publications of the United States and Russia. An impressive selection of poems was the beginning of a successful renewal of publications. It was suggested by Evgeny Yevtushenko in the anthology "Stanzas of the Century". Later, Maltseva's poems were published in a yearbook published in Philadelphia under the title "Meetings".
Five selections of the poetess's creations, one after another, appeared in the New Journal of New York. The author published an almanac and magazines "Volga", "Coast", "New Coast". In the new century, Maltseva became their regular author. In 2005, a book by the poetess called "Smoke of the Fatherland" was published. She immediately attracted the attention of the most famous poets and critics.
The reviews were both positive and negative. The first works in it are dated 1974, the last - 1984. The main criteria for all connoisseurs of poetry was what is called "real poetry." The works made it possible to plunge into, to feel the era when they were written. Her poetry requires a leisurely reading and no less attentive listening.
Maltseva's poems come from the soul. From there, their form, and music, and even quotes. Almost in parallel with the first, a new book began, which was completely different from the previous one. Maltseva called her "Obsessive Motive."

The author honed her works to perfection. It was a collection, a book, and not individual poems that had accumulated over the years in the poetess's desk. Even a page of content is perceived as a separate essay. It is immediately clear that everything is subordinate to the author's intention, one poem leads to another. A pass - and something important slips away.
The book is organized according to the principle of chronology, with its own structure and logic, giving integrity. The reader is greeted by a world that is waiting to be mastered. The collection is insisted on music. You can hear melodies of waltz, fugue, lullaby, foxtrot, song, requiem in it. The author's vocabulary is also extremely varied.
She uses archaic words, understanding the meaning of which requires referring to the dictionary, and vernacular. The poetess is a virtuoso master of the language, turning it into a master's tool. All rhymes are verified, do not stick out, do not hurt the eyes and ears.
The works of the book can be compared with wooden architecture, which for centuries has been kept without being fastened with metal nails. The world of Nadezhda Elizarovna's poetry is independent, it is iridescent and multidimensional. She was able to look at what was happening both from the outside and from the inside. This leads to a high intensity of the narrative.
For her work, Maltseva was awarded the Silver Age Prize. Since the end of 2009, the poetess has been a member of the PEN Club.
