Tapestries are most often woven from wool or silk. In the Middle Ages, the use of threads of precious metals was widespread. Nowadays, preference is given to synthetic threads and materials. In the 18th century, tapestry was considered only samples made by the method of heavy weaving, where the pattern was an integral part of the weaving of the fabric itself. Later, ready-made fabric cuts could be embroidered and were also considered tapestries.
