The World Trade Organization, which includes many countries, is committed to creating a modern world economy and a single world market. Russia's accession to the WTO evokes conflicting feelings among many citizens of the country.
Supporters of this action cite obtaining equality in trade relations with the members of the organization as the main argument for Russia's accession to the WTO. Also among the main reasons for joining are the following: the formation of favorable conditions for foreign investments in the Russian economy, the introduction of competitive products from Russia to the international market, the creation of a positive image of Russia in the world trade market.
The Russians, who believe that the country can easily do without joining the WTO, argue that the products manufactured in Russia are now being sold abroad without any problems. In addition, the question of whether Russian products can compete with foreign ones causes an ambiguous reaction among the residents of the country, especially when it comes to the domestic auto industry.
Many Russians consider most of the reasons for joining the World Trade Organization to be fictitious and believe that Russia is a self-sufficient country, primarily because its economy was created separately from others. Now the Russian Federation supplies a large number of export goods, which include energy resources, weapons, high-tech products, seafood, etc.
The key factor in the Russian economy is the highly developed production of consumer goods within the country. After joining the WTO, some of the factories producing such products will simply not be able to compete with the competition and will be forced to close. Thus, the problem of unemployment will become quite acute in Russia. The supporters of WTO accession do not put forward ways of solving this problem.
