Valery Borisovich was born on April 11, 1954. His hometown is Moscow. Garkalin Sr. was in charge of a garage workshop, his mother was a cashier. Valery loved to read, thought about the profession of an actor, but after school, as his father insisted, he began to work at the factory as a mechanic.

Creative career
Leonid Khait formed the troupe of the theater "People and Dolls" from the students, where he also took Garkalin. The collective worked under the supervision of the Kemerovo Philharmonic. The theater has had many successful tours.
