Ray Bradbury is the creator of over 800 pieces. Among his works: "Fahrenheit 451", "Dandelion Wine", "The Martian Chronicles".
Childhood and the beginning of the creative path
One of the most famous science fiction writers, Ray Bradbury was born on August 22, 1920 in the small port town of Waukegan, on the shores of Lake Michigan. Little Ray's childhood was surrounded by love and care. He fell asleep under the stories of Edgar Poe, which his mother loved to read to him. His parents took him with them to the films The Lost World and The Phantom of the Opera. All this contributed to the fact that Ray grew up as an inquisitive boy, prone to thinking and creating magical fictions.
During the Great Depression, the Brabury family was forced to move to Los Angeles. The family lived very poorly, and they had to deny themselves everything. His parents did not have money for college education, and the boy sold newspapers on the street for a long time. Needless to say, buying books was out of the question, and Ray was very fond of reading. When the boy was 12 years old, he could not recognize the continuation of the novel "The Great Warrior of Mars", since he did not have money to buy a second book. Then he decided to write a sequel himself. This moment became the starting point of the long and fruitful creative path of the writer.
At the age of 16, Ray's first publication was published - a small poem. This was followed by several stories that were published in little-known magazines. Even then, he realized that his destiny was to be a writer. Ray was very hardworking. Every month at least five stories came out from under his pen. He constantly visited various exhibitions, libraries and followed new trends in science. But he did not yet have his own style of writing. In his creations, he tried to copy the style of Edgar Poe.
The heyday of a career and the end of life
In 1945, Ray Bradbury meets Margaret McClure, the only love of his life. Two years later, they legalized their relationship. The family had four daughters. Margaret always believed in her husband and tried to create all the conditions for him to write books. She took care of all the financial support of the family and worked very hard. The writer will dedicate one of his best novels, The Martian Chronicles, to his wife.
At 33 years old, Ray Bradbury comes to real success. His novel "Fahrenheit 451" is read with interest by a huge number of people throughout America. Immediately after this, the novel will be filmed. Ray tries himself as a TV presenter and screenwriter. Ray is even invited to the USSR, where numerous admirers of his work are waiting for him with love.
In 1957, several more works appeared - "Dandelion Wine" and the novel "Trouble Coming". And the dramatic novel “Death is a Lonely Business” has received many awards.
At 78, the writer suffers a stroke. But even being in a wheelchair, he does not lose his love of life and sense of humor. In 2003, his beloved wife Margaret passed away.
Throughout his life, Ray Bradbury maintains an incredible level of performance. His morning always begins with the writing of a few pages for a new novel or novella. Every year his new books are published.
In 2006, the novel "Summer, Goodbye" was published, which became the final one in his work. In 2012, at the age of 91, the writer died.
