early years

Serzh Sargsyan was born in 1954 in the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh. After leaving school, he served in the ranks of the Soviet Army, then worked as a turner at an electromechanical plant. In parallel, he was educated at the University of Yerevan. The certified philologist went to work in the city committee of the Komsomol, then continued his career along the line of the party.

Career

In 1988, while serving in the regional party committee, Sargsyan led the movement for the annexation of Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. His compatriots elected him as a delegate to the first congress of the autonomy, and a year later Serge Azatovich received the deputy mandate of the Supreme Soviet of Armenia. Thus began his ascent to the political Olympus. At the very beginning of the formation of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, he was responsible for defense issues. Under his command, the army showed itself excellently in the settlements of Kelbajar, Khojaly and Shusha. Until 1995, Serge headed the military department of Armenia, his skillful leadership made it possible to reach an agreement on an armistice between the NKR and Azerbaijan. Over the next years, the politician was in charge of security issues and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Further steps up the career ladder invariably led Sargsyan to the pinnacle of power. He headed the administration of President Robert Kocharian and worked in the Security Council of Armenia. 2007 was a fateful year for the politician. The Republican Party named him as their leader, and this helped her gain a third of the seats in the National Assembly. Until 2008, the politician headed the government of the republic, after which the current head announced that he sees him as his successor.

President

In 2008, Sargsyan became president of Armenia, slightly more than half of the country's voters voted for him. His inauguration was accompanied by massive opposition protests in Yerevan. The capital even had to declare a state of emergency to hold the inauguration.

During the period of Sargsyan's rule, there have been significant changes in the foreign policy of the state. Relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey have significantly improved. In 2011, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited the country. The visit resulted in an agreement on the deployment of a Russian military base in Gyumri. The party led by the president achieved unprecedented success, gaining 44% of the seats in parliament. He himself received 58% of the votes in the repeated presidential elections. In the last years of his rule, he held a constitutional referendum, as a result of which Armenia became a parliamentary republic.

How he lives now

After the end of the presidential term, Serge Azatovich was elected Prime Minister of Armenia and, in accordance with the amendments to the Constitution, retained the leadership of the state in this position. His appointment led to a wave of opposition speeches, in connection with which the prime minister resigned a week after his appointment. He considered such a decision to be the only correct one, since he wished his people peace and tranquility. As before, Sargsyan retained his political influence in the country and remains the leader of the RPA movement, which has an absolute majority in parliament.

In the personal life of the politician, there is only one marriage; he created a family in 1983. His chosen one is Rita Dadayan. She, like her husband, hails from Stepanakert, grew up in a military family and a music teacher. The result of the great love of the spouses was the birth of two daughters - Anush and Satenik.
