Marat Oganesyan is a former vice-governor of St. Petersburg, who became famous throughout the country after the corruption scandal surrounding the construction of the Zenit-Arena football stadium. The disgraced official was caught stealing 28 million rubles.
Biography: early years
Marat Melsovich Hovhannisyan was born on August 15, 1970 in Chisinau. His childhood years were spent in Moldova. Marat studied at a school with a physical and mathematical bias, from which he graduated with a gold medal. He continued his studies at the Chisinau Polytechnic Institute. In 1992, Oganesyan received a diploma in mechanical engineering.
After graduation, Marat moved to Moscow. There he began to work in his specialty in various commercial structures, which were actively developing at that time.
Career
In 2004, Oganesyan took over at the helm of the Soglasie group of companies. It included several structures at once that specialized in information technology and construction. Among the well-known and large-scale projects of "Consent" - the construction of the shopping and hotel complex "Moscow City" and the restoration of buildings in the Moscow Kremlin. Hovhannisyan held this post until 2010.
After leaving the "Consent" Oganesyan headed the North-West Directorate for Reconstruction, Construction and Restoration. At that time, the second stage of the legendary Mariinsky Theater was the key brainchild of that structure.
In 2012, he received a second degree in management and expertise in the field of cultural heritage and restoration. A year later, Marat became vice-governor of St. Petersburg. He became Georgy Poltavchenko's deputy for the construction sector. Marat worked in Smolny for two years. During this period, he oversaw the construction of a new football arena on Krestovsky Island.
In 2014, Oganesyan was recognized as the best builder in Russia. He was also awarded the Order for the restoration of the Bolshoi Theater. In 2015, he voluntarily left the vice-governor's chair.
Corruption scandal
In November 2016, Oganesyan was detained in the Russian capital. He was accused of fraud. The investigation came to the conclusion that Oganesyan, during the construction of the Zenit-Arena, illegally attracted the Teatralnaya-Dekoratskie studioski company to work and through it withdrew 50 million rubles. This money on securities was intended for the purchase of a video board. According to the investigation, the former official put at least 28 million rubles in his pocket.
Hovhannisyan was immediately taken into custody, as he could have influenced the course of the trial. He did not admit his guilt. And only a year later, Marat began to cooperate with the investigation. The trial is still ongoing, and Oganesyan continues to sit in the Kresty pre-trial detention center.
Personal life
Marat Hovhannisyan is married. It is known that his wife's name is Violetta. The couple has been married since 1996. Marat and Violetta met in 1987 when they were students of the Chisinau Polytechnic.
