Margarita Mamun is a famous Russian gymnast, Olympic champion in 2016. Seven-time world champion, four-time European champion. Honored Master of Sports of the Russian Federation.
Biography
The future athlete was born in November 1995 on the first day in the capital of Russia, Moscow. Rita's father is Bengali by birth, and the girl had dual citizenship from birth. Abdul Al Mamun was a marine engineer by profession and often went on business trips. On one of these business trips to Russia, he met the mother of the future gymnast, Anna. She also played sports, and when her daughter was born, Anna wanted Rita to do rhythmic gymnastics too.
Mamun began to take her first steps in sports at the age of seven, but she began to study professionally and prepare for serious sports competitions when she was eleven years old.
Professional career
At the age of sixteen, Margarita won a serious tournament for the first time. She became the all-around champion of Russia. After such success, she was invited to the national team, training took place in Novogorsk. In 2011, for the first time as part of the national team, she went to the World Cup, held in the Canadian city of Montreal. There she took third place in the all-around and first in the ball exercise.
2013 was a truly triumphant year for the young gymnast. She won two gold medals at the World Championships in Kiev, Ukraine. The European Championship, held in Austria, also brought Mamun two gold medals. Finally, the Kazan Universiade brought Margarita four top awards at once.
The winning streak of 2013 ended in October with the Club World Cup in Japan. Margarita represented the Gazprom team. A team of three gymnasts (Rita, together with Yulia Bravikova and Yana Kudryavtseva) took first place in the tournament. In singles, Mamun was able to win only a bronze award.
In 2014, the world tournament was held in Izmir, Turkey. There Margarita won awards in six categories at once. Three medals of the highest degree and three silver ones. At the European tournament held in Azerbaijan, the gymnast performed unexpectedly badly: several annoying mistakes and losses brought Mamun only to fifth place in the final standings.
In 2016, Margarita won one of the most valuable career awards for most athletes. At the Olympic Games in Brazil, she won the gold medal in the all-around. On this pleasant note, the girl decided to temporarily stop her sports career. A year later, she announced that she was finally retiring from the sport.
Personal life and family
The famous sportswoman is married. In 2013, she met Alexander Sukhorukov, and for four years the couple met. In September 2017, they played a magnificent wedding. In October 2019, they had a son, who was named Leo.
