Biography
Nadezhda was born into a large acting family in a new style on January 6, 1818 in St. Petersburg. Her father Vasily Mikhailovich was an opera and dramatic actor, and her mother Sofya Vasilievna was an actress of drama and opera.
The Samoilov family had 4 daughters: Vera, Nadezhda, Lyubov, Maria. The firstborn was the son Vasily, who was also an actor and artist.
When Nadezhda was 15 years old, a tragedy happened in the family. Father drowned in the Gulf of Finland. Since then, the way of life of a large family has changed. If earlier the Samoilovs led a public life, invited numerous guests, then after the tragic event they rented a smaller apartment and lived quietly with their family, avoiding visits from friends and acquaintances.
Career
All the girls in the family wanted to become actresses. But Vera was prevented by her non-theatrical appearance, Maria shone for some time on the stage, but then she married the merchant Zagibenin. He was rich and jealous, so Maria's artistic career ended after 10 years.
Vera and Nadezhda continued the traditions of the creative dynasty. Both have had great success with audiences for 20 years.
Nadezhda did great comedic roles. She sang delightfully, perfectly copied the manner of performance of French and Italian singers and actresses. But at that time, Varvara Asenkova was the prima in the Alexandria Theater. When she died, her roles passed to Nadezhda. Ill-wishers whispered that the sisters were partly to blame for such an early death of the famous actress. In their youth, Nadezhda Samoilova and Varvara Asenkova were friends. But, once on the same stage, they became bitter rivals.
You can learn about this fact by looking at the painting "The Green Carriage".
