E. Ryazanov shot the film "Cruel Romance" in 1983 based on the play by N. Ostrovsky "Dowry". The film stars Soviet cinema stars:

−N. Mikhalkov - Paratov;

−A. Freundlich - Harita Ogudalova;

−A. Myagkov - Karandashev;

−A. Petrenko - Knurov;

−V. Proskurin - Vozhevatov.

The brilliant debut of L. Guzeeva, who played the role of Larisa Ogudalova, did not go unnoticed.

Ryazanov managed to make a fascinating vivid picture out of a dry play, which conveyed the main idea of the script's author - "In the soulless world of money there is no place for genuine feeling and true human values."

The plot of the picture

The picture takes place in the 19th century. The audience is shown the tragedy of a family of impoverished nobles - the Ogudalov family. With a few juicy strokes, the director conveyed the mood and customs of Russian society on the threshold of the 20th century.

The smart ladies' man S. S. Paratov, a wealthy ship owner, takes good care of the charming Larisa Ogudalova and she reciprocates. But suddenly the "master" disappears for several months. Life circumstances push Larisa to accept the offer of the poor postal worker Karandyshev. On the eve of the wedding, unfortunately for Larisa, Sergei Sergeevich is announced. The love story ends with a drama - the death of the heroine.

The plot of the film is vital, painful, and now sincere feelings often remain unappreciated, hopes are shattered by indifference and human meanness. The picture is interesting for its modernity.

Truly, Freundlich is magnificent in this film, in her performance Madame Ogudalova is a simple loving mother, forced to humiliate herself, to dodge in order to arrange the happiness of her daughters. Mikhalkov managed to create an ambiguous image of Paratov. The acting is impeccable - brilliant actors are involved in this film.

Film recognition

Musical melodrama - wonderful romances performed by N. Mikhalkov, V. Ponomareva. The film is imbued with emotions - sincerity and disappointment, indifference and pain. And just a beautiful picture, which reveals the theme of eternal values - love and money, a high degree of passions and the drama of experiences are felt in it.

Despite the harsh criticism, the picture fell in love with the audience, it was recognized as the best picture of the year, in 1985 at the Delhi Film Festival she received the Golden Peacock prize.
