Immortality is humanity's unrealizable dream. There are legends according to which people still managed to defeat death and have been living on earth for more than one century. For the first of them, a long life is a kind of mission sent from above, for the second - a terrible punishment, and the third appeared out of nowhere and disappeared into no one knows where.
Immortal Apostle John the Theologian
Saint John is the youngest of the twelve apostles of Christ. He was one of his closest and beloved disciples, to whom the Divine Power of the Lord was revealed. Jesus Christ revealed this power of his only to a few of his chosen disciples, among whom was John the Theologian.
It was the Apostle John who remained with the Mother of God until her Dormition. John was to travel to Asia Minor to preach the gospel. He went there with a heavy heart, he understood that difficult trials awaited him in the future.
Throughout his long life, John performed many miracles in the name of God. According to church tradition, when the Apostle John was over a hundred years old, he and his seven disciples came to a deserted place and ordered them to dig his grave in the shape of a cross. He lay down in the grave and ordered his disciples to sleep him with earth. When the upset seven disciples returned to the city and told the rest, several people ran to the place where John was buried. They dug up the grave, but there was no one there.
The Christian Church cannot give an unambiguous answer: is the Apostle still alive or not. It is believed that John the Theologian did not die, but by the will of Christ must remain on earth until his second coming. It turns out that the Apostle John is still among the living. He protects believers and does not allow the Christian Church to fade away.
Agasfer or Eternal Jew
Another person who is awaiting the Second Coming of Christ is Ahasuerus or the "Eternal Jew". Its history has served as a prototype for many literary, painting and poetry works.
According to legend, a Jewish craftsman refused to Jesus, who was led to crucifixion, when he asked permission to lean against the wall of his house in order to rest a little and take a breath. For such an attitude towards the Son of God, Ahasuerus was condemned to wander around the earth until the Second Coming of Christ. He is now doomed to eternal contempt on the part of people.
There is also a legend that Hagasfer approaches Jerusalem every fifty years to beg forgiveness from the Holy Sepulcher, but every time a terrible storm blocks his path.
Count Saint-Germain
This unique adventurer, diplomat and alchemist of the Enlightenment appeared literally out of thin air. It is not known for certain when and where he was born, where he managed to get an excellent education, and where he got so much money from.
Count's contemporaries recall that he often disappeared from sight, and then suddenly appeared in London, The Hague or Rome and lived there under various pseudonyms. All people who knew the Comte Saint-Germain agreed on one thing - it was completely impossible to determine his age. He himself loved, as if by chance, to say that he personally knew Jesus Christ, saw Cleopatra and Seneca.
Elderly aristocrats recalled that in their childhood they had already met this mysterious count and since then he has not changed at all. It was even said that he knew the secret of eternal youth and immortality. And even in spite of the enormous efforts of historians and biographers, there are a lot of "blank spots" in the life history of Count Saint-Germain.
