At the age of 18, Tayanovich moved to Samara, where he was enrolled in the army sports club. There Benjamin studied under the guidance of the famous coach Gennady Turetsky. At that time he was considered one of the best freestyle swimming specialists in the USSR. Tayanovich trained with him until his retirement from the big sport.

Career

Tayanovich began to show his first high-profile successes in sports at the age of 18. Then he became the All-Union champion in the 200 m freestyle relay. A year later, Benjamin was third at the Goodwill Games in the 4x200 m relay.

Three years later, he won international competitions in Tallinn. And soon Veniamin won silver in the 200 m swim in the match between the national team of the States and the USSR.

In 1990, he again took part in the Goodwill Games. But then Benjamin could not repeat the success of four years ago. The swimmer took "bronze", but in two relay races at once: 4x100 m and 4x200 m.

1991 was a successful year for Tayanovich. First, he became the champion of the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR at a distance of 100 m. Then, at the same competition, he won silver in the swim at 200 m. In the same year, Veniamin became the second at the World Championships in the 4x100 m and 4x200 m relay races. A little later, at similar distances in the framework of the European Championship, he was already the first.

Despite the fact that the Union no longer actually existed, and chaos reigned in national sports, as well as in the state, the athletes still managed to show a decent result. Tayanovich became the Olympic champion in the 4x200 m relay race, and also won silver at the 4x100 m distance. In the same year, he completed his sports career.
