Step 1

Who can be considered a political leader? At first glance, the answer to this question is very simple, literally lies on the surface. A political leader is the head of a state or a party or a social movement. However, this simplicity is only apparent, because this is not always the case.

Step 2

A political leader is, first of all, a person who can truly (and not nominally) lead a country or large masses of people, unite and organize broad strata of society, instill in them sympathy for himself, faith in the righteousness of his cause, his ideas. For this he must have the gift of persuasion, oratorical talent, remarkable organizational skills, a strong will. In a word, to have, as is often said now, a pronounced charisma. A political leader must be mentally prepared for difficulties, to take full responsibility, if necessary, to resort to strict, even harsh measures for the common good.

Step 3

Therefore, a high position alone is not enough to become a political leader. History knows many cases when states were headed by weak, unprepared people who, in their business and moral qualities, simply did not correspond to their place. In peacetime, with a favorable situation, this is still somehow bearable. But in an era of trials, the inability of such people to be political leaders turned into a big disaster both for themselves (and their loved ones) and for the people and the state. And the fact that these incapable leaders could be quite worthy people who sincerely wished well for their people no longer plays any role. Classic examples are the French king Louis XVI and the Russian emperor Nicholas II.

Step 4

A political leader must unswervingly defend the interests of his people and state. At the same time, he must take into account the interests of the other side, and, if necessary, make a reasonable compromise.

Step 5

Unfortunately, often political leaders are people who, as the saying goes, should not be allowed to power. The most typical example is Adolf Hitler, who, possessing an indisputable oratorical talent, the gift of persuasion, deftly speculating on the colossal difficulties experienced by the German people due to the predatory conditions of the Versailles Peace, and on the feeling of national humiliation, managed to instill in the majority of Germans a fanatical belief in himself and become at the head of Germany. It is well known how it ended both for Germany itself and for the whole world.
