Rabindranath Tagore
He was the fourteenth child in the family, the youngest, born in 1861 in Calcutta. His family was wealthy and famous in the city, she belonged to the caste of Brahmins. Rabindranath lost his mother at the age of 14, after which he lived in isolation and loneliness.
At about eight years old, he began to write poetry. He was taught at first at home, then he was sent to one of the private schools. In Calcutta, he mastered knowledge at the Eastern Seminary, managed to study at the Bengal Academy, where he studied the history and culture of Bengalis. At the age of 17 he published the epic poem "The Story of a Poet". And in 1878 he left for England, entered the University College in London, the law department. However, he dropped out a year later and returned to his native Calcutta.
Mrinalini Devi became his wife in 1883 and had five children, three daughters and two sons. In 1882-1883 he published two collections of poetry, first - "Evening songs", a year later - "Morning songs", these books marked the beginning of the poetry career of Rabindranath Tagore. Since 1890, the customs and landscapes of rural Bengal, where he moved at the request of his father, became the main theme of his poetry. According to the poet himself, the most productive years were the period from 1890 to 1900.
The beginning of the 20th century was marked by the poet's move to the family nest on the outskirts of Calcutta. It was there that he and five of his like-minded people opened a school, for the sake of this his wife donated her jewelry, and he himself - copyrights to his works. During this period, Tagore, in addition to teaching, continued to write, only it was no longer poetry, but prose. The literary heritage also includes the poet's pedagogical works, not only articles, but also textbooks. In 1902 he was widowed. In 1903 his daughter died of tuberculosis, and in 1907 his youngest son died of cholera.
Since 1912, his eldest son studied in the USA, at an agricultural college, and Tagore decided to move to him. But before that, he visited London, where he demonstrated poetry to William Rothenstein in his own translation into English. With the introduction of this English writer, Tagore's "Sacrificial Songs" were published, after which he became famous both in the United States and in England.
In 1913 Tagore was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, and the commission was greatly impressed by his "Sacrificial Songs". And, despite the fact that he became known to Western readers as a poet, many plays came out from under his pen.
Indira Gandhi
The daughter of the leader of the INC, the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, became the world's second female prime minister in 1964. Neither she nor her family have anything to do with the famous Mahatma Gandhi, they are namesakes. When the INC split, she took over as chairman of the independent Congress party. It was her two main desires, rapprochement with the USSR and a socially oriented policy, that caused the split of the INC. During the reign of Indira Gandhi, she nationalized banks, promoted the development of industry, during her reign, a nuclear power plant was built and gave the first current, and food imports were stopped.
During this period, the situation in the country stabilized, religious conflicts exhausted themselves, but the forced sterilization of the country's citizens to limit the birth rate became an unpopular measure. During the confrontation with the Sikhs during the second coming to power, Indira Gandhi liberated the Golden Temple seized in Amritsar by the rebels, while about 500 Sikhs died. With this she signed her own death warrant. She was killed by her own Sikh bodyguards in October 1984.
