Out of panic, an order was given to lock up the third class, preventing him from breaking through to rescue. The boats were occupied only by the passengers of the suite, and later by women and children. This was decided by the captain and the sailors, who became rowers for the weaker sex and escaped. Most of the boats were not full. Moreover, two of them were not launched at all.
