For citizens of Kazakhstan, there are several ways to obtain Russian citizenship. You can obtain citizenship on a general basis, in a simplified or expedited manner. The latter is regulated by a special agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 26.03.99. “On the simplified procedure for acquiring citizenship of the Russian Federation by persons who have arrived for permanent residence in the territory of the Russian Federation”.
Instructions
Step 1
In an expedited manner, you can obtain Russian citizenship if you were citizens of the Kazakh SSR and were born (resided) in the territory of the Russian Federation before December 21, 1991. Or, if you have close relatives who permanently reside in the territory of the Russian Federation and are its citizens.
Step 2
Determine if you belong to these categories. If yes, apply for citizenship at the Russian Consulate in Kazakhstan. In this case, the duration of residence in the territory of the Russian Federation does not matter. Application materials will be considered within 3 months.
Step 3
You have the right to apply for citizenship in a simplified manner if you have received education since July 1, 2002 in Russian educational institutions, have been married to a citizen of the Russian Federation for 3 years or more, one of the parents is a citizen of the Russian Federation, or you were born on the territory of the Russian Federation and had USSR citizenship. Veterans of the Great Patriotic War and disabled persons with adult capable children or registered in the Russian Federation at the place of residence can also obtain citizenship in a simplified manner.
Step 4
Determine if you belong to the categories listed above. Submit documents for obtaining citizenship at the place of registration. Application materials will be considered within 6 months.
Step 5
For all other categories of citizens of Kazakhstan, it is possible to obtain citizenship of the Russian Federation in the general manner. For this, it is necessary to continuously reside in the territory of the Russian Federation for 5 years from the moment of obtaining a residence permit. Apply for citizenship at the place of registration. Application materials will be considered within 1 year.
