Instructions

Step 1

As already noted, citizenship can be obtained using a simplified scheme. However, in most cases, it is the general one, to which foreign citizens or stateless persons who have necessarily reached the age of 18 and are legally capable are entitled. In addition, the applicant must have continuously lived in the Russian Federation for at least five years. The term “continuously” means that a person must not leave the territory of the country for more than three months a year.

Step 2

The future citizen of the Russian Federation is also required to comply with the established laws and the constitution of the country, have the necessary means of subsistence (obtained legally), and most importantly, the applicant must be fluent in Russian. It is worth noting that in order to obtain Russian citizenship, you will have to give up your previous one.

Step 3

There are also exceptions for the length of stay in the country. For example, citizens with high achievements in science, art, technology, culture or having a profession in demand in the Russian Federation can apply for citizenship after living in Russia for only a year.

Step 4

Foreigners or stateless persons who have at least one of their parents - a citizen of the Russian Federation - have the right to apply under a simplified scheme. But please note that the parent (or parents) must permanently reside in the country. Those persons who lived in the territory of the former member states of the Soviet Union and possessed the citizenship of the USSR also fall under the category of faster acquisition of citizenship.

Step 5

Persons who graduated from secondary or higher institutions of Russia can also obtain Russian citizenship in a short time. However, there is one restriction, according to which these persons must be citizens of the former countries of the Soviet Union or receive education no later than July 1, 2002.
