The conditions and procedure for acquiring citizenship of the Russian Federation are spelled out in the Federal Law “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation” and the Regulation on the Procedure for Considering Issues of Citizenship of the Russian Federation. For citizens of the CIS countries, including Ukraine, these documents indicate some differences from the general procedure for obtaining citizenship.

Step 1
A simplified procedure for admission to the citizenship of the Russian Federation is provided for citizens of the countries of the USSR who received education (secondary vocational or higher) in Russian educational institutions after July 1, 2002. If you live on the territory of Russia, and were born on the territory of the RSFSR and had the citizenship of the USSR, then you can count on obtaining citizenship in a simplified manner, without observing the condition of the period of residence.
Step 2
To obtain a passport of the Russian Federation, you need to collect a package of documents, which includes a birth certificate, a passport, a migration notification with a mark on registration for migration, a migration card, if any - an international passport, a marriage or divorce certificate, a diploma of education, a certificate of birth of children, certificate of ownership of the apartment. In each case, the list of securities can be supplemented.
Step 3
With these documents, photographs, a completed application form and an application, contact the territorial office of the FMS. You must apply personally, but if you have to use mail or an intermediary, you will need notarial confirmation of copies of documents and signatures in the application.
