Since 1990, the filming location of the program “What? Where? When? remains unchanged. He was once chosen by Vladimir Voroshilov himself - the founder and host of the game. Since then, all games have been played there.
Transfer history
The popular program dates back to September 1975. Since then, a lot has changed: the course of the game, the experts, the venue. Until 1982, the shooting took place in the Ostankino bar. For this, the room was refurbished every time, they put a round table, installed light. The program had to move more than once. Later, the filming process was carried out on Herzen Street, then on Krasnaya Presnya in the World Trade Center. At present, connoisseurs gather in Neskuchny Garden, namely in the Hunting Lodge. It is an architectural monument of the 18th century and is located in Moscow.
Hunting Lodge - filming location
The hunting lodge is absolutely not intended for the filming process. There is no heating or water supply in it. Decorating the room with mirrors visually enlarges it, so it is difficult to even imagine how small this room is in reality. It can accommodate up to 80 people. This place is very fond of connoisseurs, so even the thought does not arise to move to another pavilion. The hunting lodge is currently rented.
In the 18th century, the southern part of Neskuchny Garden was occupied by the Trubetskoy estate. Since that time, the only thing that has survived from the buildings is the Hunter's Lodge, located in the hinterland of the forest. The room has been refurbished many times, there was once a cafe, a beer bar and even a toilet. The fate of the building would have been a foregone conclusion if Vladimir Voroshilov had not paid attention to it in 1990. He came up with a brilliant idea, which he brought to life. I rented a house, made major repairs there. Now the connoisseur's club gathers in the boring garden to host games.
In the pavilion where the program “What? Where? When?”, Hunters used to live, drank tea, played cards. Nearby was a suspension bridge, sitting on which Turgenev wrote the poem "First Love". Even Pushkin, along with Natalie, were frequent guests of the estate and, in particular, visited the hunting lodge. Voroshilov did not even know all these details. While walking through the garden, he accidentally stumbled upon a dilapidated building and realized that this place was ideal for meeting connoisseurs.
The game room itself is now located in the historical part of the one-story house, which was built in the 18th century. But the technical service, the TV game announcer are sitting in a special annex. The total area of the building is 75.8 sq.m., the area of the playing hall is 28.8 sq.m. But thanks to the designers' idea - to make the room mirrored, the room does not seem small. In particular, the mirrored ceiling was made by craftsmen from the Hermitage.
