The project, unusual for the national stage of the eighties, was initially called the "Surprise" show group. The musicians endowed the songs with an original plastic form and style. A real sensation was made by the appearance on the stage of the participants, four spectacular men in bright costumes.
The idea of creating a theatrical ensemble performing songs in retro style was proposed by Georgy Mamikonov with Viktor Kamashev. Later Timur Mironov and Viktor Groshev joined the team.
Becoming
In the TV program "Morning Mail" in the summer of 1986, the composition "Doctor Watson" sounded for the first time, which opened the score of the new band's hits. "Surprise" was admitted to the regional metropolitan philharmonic society. Together with the most popular artists, the quartet toured the country.
The ensemble recorded their first medley "The Queen of Beauty" in the early spring of 1988. Since that time, the genre has become the band's calling card. Participants performed incendiary hits from the "golden fund" of the Soviet stage of the 40-70s.
In 1988 the show quartet went to the festival in Bialystok, changing its name. Dr. Watson, having become the winner of the competition, began to count down his own achievements.
Popularity
The show group presented the giant disc in the early nineties on two discs. One consisted of 9 new medley, the second included 16 famous songs from the movies. Each envelope was accompanied by the lyrics of all compositions. In this form, the listeners received the first karaoke.
The know-how of the popular ensemble was the original arrangements that gave new life to the potpourri genre. Debut CD "Good!" was released in 1994. And in the fall the group presented Igor Braslavsky, its new soloist and laureate of "Sopot-92" to the fans. With this composition, "Doctor Watson" has achieved both recognition and a high award.
The annual tour in the United States began in 1995. The show group took an active part in charity work.
The grandiose Retro-Theater "Doctor Watson" festival was held in 1997. The composition of the "Retro Stars" participants was unprecedented. At the same time, the own recording studio of the pop-show group "Retro-Stars" began to work.
Creativity continues
In 2001, an album with songs of the peoples of the world of the 1960-70s "Around the World" appeared on sale. The unique award "KinoWatson" came from the idea of popularizing songs of the past.
In 2003, the first awards ceremony for musicians of Russian cinema was held. The sculptor Sergei Mikulsky and the artist Alexander Grimm became the creators of the elegant statuette in the form of a treble clef.
The composition of the team members has changed. Viktor Shchedrov joined the ensemble in 2005 from the collective of Alla Pugacheva, in 2008 the collective was joined by a new member, Vladimir Ovcharov.
In the fall of 2006, a variety studio for children "Watson Junior" began working at a production center organized by the collective.
Many contemporary performers now include songs revived by "Dr. Watson" in their repertoire. The beat - show group has become and remains an island of musical culture during the USSR. The creativity of the ensemble members is always in demand.
