There are enough mysterious places called mystical on the planet. Some of the darkest legends are associated with swamps. Most of them are in Russia. A zone in the Vologda Oblast is called an abnormal one. It was here that many cases occurred that science failed to explain.
The Cherepovets bogs are not yet sufficiently explored territory. They are called an anomaly with good reason because of the unreasonable disappearances of people. There is another "glory" for a bad place. It is these swamps that claim to be the suicide champion.
A lost place
It is also impossible to explain the condition of local residents from a scientific point of view: almost every one of them can "boast" with a certificate where depressive-manic syndrome is indicated as a diagnosis.
Even the mentally and physically healthiest people near the swamps are capable of losing their minds. Statistics confirm that in terms of suicide rates, the Cherepovets swamps overtook other regions of the country five times. And there are much more criminal offenses committed here than in other areas.
Mysterious loss
In the 16th century, a merchant disappeared here. They could not find him for 12 years. When everyone had already abandoned the search, the disappeared one appeared on his own. He said that on the way, for some unknown reason, he turned off, heading not to a fair to sell goods, but to a swamp.
As soon as a man approached the edge of the reservoir, he was enveloped in unreasonable horror. The fear was so strong that the merchant wanted to hide in the swamp, diving headlong. Wanting to get out of an incomprehensible state, the merchant ran to the forest, where he wandered for many years. In recognition of the "loss" he could not even imagine that he had been in the thicket so much.
Local legends tell about the living in the Vologda region of the kikimora. This creature in Slavic mythology is considered an evil spirit, but it avoids people. Few people manage to see the kikimora, they hear her unpleasant voice much more often.
According to legend, a kikimora can lure a lonely traveler and drag him into a swamp. They say that it is impossible to get rid of the "inhabitant" by any forces. Therefore, the ancestors believed that it is safe only for witches and sorcerers to appear in such places.
Science and mysticism
Much has been said about the ruin of these places, and these reasons are quite weighty. True, no anomalous phenomena have been recorded at the present time on the territory of the Cherepovets bogs: they stopped at the beginning of the last century.
Scientists have made enough attempts to conduct research. Soil analysis was done several decades ago. To everyone's amazement, it was possible to find unknown forms of life in it, but so far there is no documentary evidence of this information, scientists themselves are in no hurry to give any explanations.
Basically, the reservoirs reaching a depth of five meters are heavily overgrown ponds of various sizes, and not swamps. The most famous in the Cherepovets anomalies are the Pustynnoe and Ivachevskoe lakes. It is to them that the most notorious is attributed.
Theories and reality
After the remarks found in one of the documentary sources about the impossibility of moving to another place of residence, since the swamp spirit "calls" back, assumptions were made about the impact of water on people.
According to one hypothesis, vegetation at the bottom of water bodies is special. When it decays, it releases hallucinatory substances. When a small dose of it is inhaled, panic begins, while an excessive value threatens not just panic, but also an irresistible desire to commit suicide. The proposed theory seemed quite logical, and no further research was undertaken.
According to another theory, the location in the anomalous zone had a negative energetic effect on the water. As a result, it became disastrous for local residents. For all the fantastic nature of this assumption, it is considered real by some scientists.
If the Cherepovets swamps have accumulated negative emanations for centuries, then generously “sharing” them with people and bringing them to the point of losing their minds, then this fully explains what is happening. And it’s much easier to believe than the legend of an evil ghost.
