Initially, Marshak chose a surname with a shoe theme for his hero. He could become Kablukov or Bashmakov. Later I decided to give him a surname, consonant with the main quality of the hero - absent-mindedness.
In each edition, the artists portray him differently. He's not busy with anything. It is not known whether he has a job, whether he conducts some kind of social activity. The author tells only about incidents associated with his absent-minded nature. In general, Marshak created a charming image of a cute, harmless eccentric. All his eccentricities look stupid. Absent-minded is surrounded by people laughing at him.
The poem about Scattered from Basseinaya Street was published in 1930. It was reprinted 11 times and is considered Marshak's most popular work. In 1975, the "Ekran" TO released the cartoon of the same name.

Then he sits down at the station in the uncoupled carriage and thinks that he has been traveling for two days and cannot leave the city of Leningrad in any way.
The stations mentioned in the poem are not at all on the Leningrad-Moscow line. Dubna is located in the direction of Leningrad-Helsinki, and Yamskaya in Kursk.
The hero's adventures begin at home, when he was getting dressed for the trip. Instead of a hat, he put a frying pan on his head, pulled on gloves on his feet. These ridiculous oversights amuse young readers a lot. Marshak so figuratively portrayed the absent-mindedness of his hero that this quality fully replaced both the storyline and the visual and social portrait of the character.
