The emergence of time zones on our planet was due to the banal convenience of communication and the separation of different countries and cities in accordance with the real time of day. Scientists divided the entire surface of the Earth into 24 time zones, while taking into account an interval of 15 degrees of longitude. The same time is considered to be within the same time zone.
Instructions
Step 1
The decision on calculating time zones was made at the International Conference in 1884. A year earlier, the meridian passing through the Greenwich Observatory near London was considered the point of time reference. It was this observatory that became the unifying link. It was originally built by order of King Charles II for seafarers.
Step 2
It is worth noting that Russia first switched to standard time in 1919, and at first it was used only for shipping, so that it was convenient for sailors to calculate geographic coordinates. But after 5 years absolutely everyone began to use this type of time. There are 42 time zones in the world.
Step 3
According to 2010 data, there were 9 time zones in Russia, although before that there were as many as 11 time zones. It's just that some regions switched to a different time zone, for example, Udmurtia and the Samara region preferred Moscow time, more precisely, the second time zone, which, by the way, does not at all correspond to the natural time of these latitudes. However, this decision made it possible to simplify the entire hourly situation in a large country, because now the maximum spread has been reduced from 10 to 9 hours.
Step 4
All boundaries of the time zone are drawn with detailed legibility, namely, with a division into physical and geographical features. That is, large rivers, interstate borders, administrative boundaries and even relief features are taken into account. There are some designations for time zones, in particular, the plus sign denotes the eastern region, but the minus sign denotes the western one.
Step 5
The countries of Europe are considered to be the zero belt, or rather, these are France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal.
Step 6
The first time zone includes: Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Yugoslavia. The second time zone covers the European part of Russia, as well as Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey.
Step 7
The third time zone, for example, includes Iraq and Israel. The fourth time zone runs along the Bashkir Autonomous Republic, Afghanistan and Oman. The list of the composition of time zones can be infinitely long, since they contain many countries, states, republics.
Step 8
In addition to time zones, there is a certain tradition to move the time forward or backward one hour, depending on the season. In the summer, it is customary to move the clock hands forward one hour, and in winter - back one hour. Daylight saving time was put forward one hour, since daylight hours increased, and people could save money, for example, on lighting.
