Initially, hipsters were called fans of a special subculture that arose among convinced lovers of jazz music. The term "hipster" itself comes from the slang expression "to be hip" - "to be in the subject", from which, by the way, the word "hippie" comes. Subsequently, this term changed its meaning, and now the word "hipster" means a representative of urban youth, whose interests and hobbies are dominated by elite foreign culture, alternative music, and fashion.
The predominant age of hipsters is from 16 to 25 years old. Most often they come from wealthy strata of the population. Often from the so-called "golden youth".
There are some external signs by which you can with a high degree of probability recognize the representatives of this youth subculture. In clothes, they prefer unisex style, they often wear glasses in massive bright plastic frames, stretched T-shirts, voluminous scarves and hats. Many hipsters carry cameras and notepads with them. Guys prefer to wear skinny jeans, girls - colored leggings or tights and stockings torn to holes. Hairspray is often used to fix the hairstyle, or almost no attention is paid to it at all.
The attitude towards hipsters from fans of other subcultures varies greatly. Reviews about them are both condescendingly indifferent, and frankly hostile. For example, in the media there were such comments about the representatives of the subculture: "Despite the fact that hipsters emphatically avoid any labels, they dress the same, act identically to each other and follow the norms of their non-conformism absolutely in a conformist manner."
The prevailing opinion is that the hipster subculture is the lot of infantile, spoiled people who are not prepared for the realities of life, who themselves do not really know what they want and what they need at all. They say that the most important thing for them is appearance, accessories and fashion trends, and they are not capable of anything else.
Probably closest to the truth is the statement that hipsters are carriers of moderately oppositional bourgeois consciousness and values. Although many of them are emphatically demonstratively declaring their complete apoliticality.
