Most scientific historical research gives the following definition of feminism: it is a social, political and social movement that aims to provide freedom and equal rights to all women who are discriminated against on any grounds - gender, race, age, ethnicity, orientation, etc. … In a broader sense, feminism is defined as the desire of women to obtain equal rights with men in all spheres of public life.
Feminism strives for gender equality, therefore, the fight for the rights of discriminated men is also an integral part of it.
Often this social movement is equated with sexism and man-hatred, accusing feminists of striving to completely subjugate men, take control over all spheres of society and subject society to a radical restructuring. Such accusations cannot be called fair, since they contradict the main goal of feminism - to balance the rights of the sexes. However, some followers of such a variation of this movement as radical feminism really do not see any other way to get rid of patriarchy, except for a complete and thorough breakdown of the social system.
March 8 is considered International Women's Day. On this day in 1908, a rally on the equality of women was held in New York at the call of the Social Democratic Women's Organization.
By the way, patriarchy in the worldview of feminists is a kind of root of evil, which is called the cause of all social problems, and without its elimination, any reforms are basically useless.
Feminists and modernity
Today, feminists are often called those who strive for independence from men, mainly material. If you go out on a date with a man in a restaurant and want to pay for your share of dinner, you may well be asked if you are a feminist.
Some people think that “feminist” and “woman of non-traditional sexual orientation” are inseparable concepts, but this is not true. Many girls live in a happy marriage with a man, while striving for material independence and career growth.
However, there are also critics of modern feminism, who argue that the adherents of this movement did not achieve equalization of rights, but an increase in responsibilities - women received the right to work on an equal basis with men, but their responsibilities in the form of housework and raising children did not disappear. Although in most cases, such problems are solved in each family individually.
