As a rule, icons are present in the homes of Orthodox believers. It doesn't matter if they are big or small, bought on their own or inherited. In any case, icons are a window to the higher heavenly world through which communication with God is carried out. Currently, you can order a church painting either directly at the church, or in special workshops. But how can you determine its value?
Instructions
Step 1
Several factors influence the value of an icon. The first is the way it was made. If the icon is hand-painted, its value will be significantly higher than the icon printed on compacted paper or canvas. Of course, the latter option is less costly and laborious, but the icon created in this way will not carry absolutely no spiritual and artistic value. Handmade works are a completely different matter. They are spiritualized and completely imbued with the highest divine power.
Step 2
The cost of an icon depends on its size. The size can be very different: tiny (easily fits in the palm of your hand), medium (usually placed on shelves, tables, etc.) or large (takes up the entire wall). Naturally, the cost of making a large icon will be higher, and, accordingly, its cost will be higher.
Step 3
Combining the above two factors, you can determine the approximate cost of church paintings. So, the smallest icons of size 14x11cm can cost 500-1000 rubles (if they are printed on canvas), and 8-9 thousand if made by the author. The largest icons in the first case will be estimated at 2000-3000 rubles, and in the second - at 15000-18000 rubles.
Step 4
The materials used will also affect the cost of the icon. For example, an image covered with gilding will cost more than ordinary works painted with paints. In short, when calculating the cost of a product, the selected type of wood, the applied paint and protective coating are taken into account. If you want to order an icon of the best quality, keep in mind that it will cost you more than 12,000-15,000 rubles.
Step 5
In addition, the price of an icon may directly depend on the complexity of the images depicted on it. Thus, it will be easier and faster to write a saint than a saint. This is due to the fact that the latter has richer clothes, which require more careful and painstaking drawing from the author.
Step 6
The cost of the icon is also influenced by the number of inscribed images, the presence of various decorations, assists (strokes depicted on the folds of clothing, angel wings, feathers and made of gold or silver leaf), engraving and much more. If all this is present in a church painting, its cost may exceed 20,000 rubles.
Step 7
Not the least role in the cost of the icon is played by the technique of its writing, as well as the skill and authority of the icon painter.
