What is a city and a village

A city is a settlement whose inhabitants are not engaged in agriculture. The main principle of the emergence of cities is the creation of industrial and economic complexes located near energy sources and transport hubs. The city is more autonomous than rural settlements. Natural factors do not have a great influence on him, in contrast to the village, where the whole way of life is subordinated to the change of natural rhythms. Each city has its own unique character, it has a center and outskirts, historical monuments, hospitals, cinemas, schools, factories and factories.

A village is a settlement that is usually located quite far from the city. Before the revolution, the village differed from the village by the obligatory presence of a church. Thus, it was the center of a rural parish and united several nearby villages. It was in the village that enterprises for the processing of products of peasant labor were most often built - sawmills, mills, grinders, etc.

The names of many villages traditionally end with the letter "o": Petrovo, Babkino, Balobanovo. The main thing for the villagers is a close connection with agriculture and animal husbandry. But there are many villages where people work outside of agriculture. For example, in the east and north of Russia, most rural residents serve railways or river transport, felling forests, fishing and hunting. Often in villages there are workshops or even factories that process agricultural products, weaving, and woodworking.

In Russia, the “city” category includes settlements with a population of at least 12 thousand inhabitants. However, there are enough cities with smaller populations. Their city status is determined by historical factors or population change. There are, in turn, large villages - for example, more than 65 thousand people live in the village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya in Ingushetia, which corresponds to a medium-sized city.
