Trinity is also called the feast of Pentecost. The fact is that it is celebrated exactly on the fiftieth day after Easter. Trinity always falls on Sunday.

The interpretation of this holiday can be found in the Bible. It says that on the fiftieth day after Easter, a miracle happened, about which Jesus Christ spoke during his lifetime. All his disciples and the Most Holy Theotokos gathered in the house on Mount Zion. A miracle descended on them in the form of a divine flame, which endowed everyone with spiritual gifts. From that moment on, all participants in the events began to preach Christianity among the people and learned eloquence in different languages. It is to this event that the celebration of the Trinity or Pentecost is timed.

In 2019, Easter will be celebrated on April 28, and, therefore, Trinity will be on June 16. On this day, all Orthodox Christians will celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles of Christ.

For ordinary people, this holiday has always meant goodbye to spring and welcome summer. On this day, fences and gates of houses were decorated with products made from green grass or armfuls of branches. All houses in the Christian settlements were prepared for the holiday in advance. Sometimes there was even a competition for the best and most beautiful house.

But the main tradition was decorating a birch tree. They chose a lonely beauty next to the road or at the edge of the forest. Multicolored strips of cloth were hung on a young tree, and then they sang songs and danced around it. In the evening, young people always burned a fire in the forest glades.

Also, young birches standing nearby were intertwined with branches and made something like an arch. At the evening festivities, young girls and boys passed through this arch and sang songs. She symbolized eternal friendship between people without any reservations and troubles.

At the same time, the girls wove wreaths from different flowers and plants. Late in the evening they would go down to the river and let them float on the water. If the wreath floated away quickly, it means that she will soon meet her betrothed. And if he drowned near the shore, then this meant great misfortune.

But the girls did not only weave wreaths for fortune telling. All week before Trinity, it was customary to wear them on the head. Wreaths were woven from green maple or linden branches. Also, in their manufacture, various herbs were used. But wormwood was an indispensable attribute of these wreaths. It was believed that this plant protects a person from various otherworldly forces, which were activated on this holiday. Therefore, the whole week was named Green. Now these traditions are a little lost in time. But in small villages and hamlets, they continue.
