Radu Albot became the only Moldovan tennis player to receive two ATP titles, including singles. In the Davis Cup, the most famous Moldavian athlete defended the national team of his native country.
His father brought Radu Vladimirovich to tennis. It was he who first noticed talent in his son. Often, the titled tennis player still turns to his parent for advice, although he trains with a professional mentor.
The path to success
The biography of the future tennis player began in 1989. He was born in Chisinau on November 11. Coming to tennis, the newcomer showed good results almost immediately. The junior took the 11th place in the ranking.
Albot began to attend professional competitions in 2006, but until the next season he was not included in the ratings. In 2007, the athlete took part in the Davis Cup for the first time as a member of the national team of Moldova.
For three years, the tennis player climbed up. He entered the list of the 500 best players on the planet. Radu finished 503rd in 2010. He played at the ATP level, but did not qualify for the main draw. The rating grew constantly.
The entire 2011 Albota season was held in Challengers. Often the athlete went through one or two laps. The result was a place in the third hundred. In 2012, the Moldovan took part in three ITF tournaments in Antalya. Albot won two of them. The tennis player won a couple more competitions in Turkey.
Failures and accomplishments
The rest of the season was spent trying to win Challengers to get into the ITF Main Draw. Despite the achievements, the tennis player failed to rise above the third hundred in the rating.
Luck smiled at him after the end of the third season. However, little by little Radu moved forward constantly. Entering the second hundred, he made it to the Challenger final for the first time in May. The first win took place in Fergana in September 2015.
By the end of the year, Albot, after qualifying, took part in the ATP tournament in Chennai. However, he dropped out of the first round. The athlete left futures, limiting himself to larger competitions. The Moldovan was able to successfully qualify for the games in the Asia-Pacific region in Estorville.
However, Radu had to retire from the fight in the first round. Success came in Bastad. The first circle was completed. Albot won his second challenge in February 2015 in Kolkata.
He made it to the finals three times a season, but he never won. The result was the 121st place in the rating.
Career and family
Radu got into the top 100 players in the world in 2016. He became the first Moldovan tennis player to finish the season in the top 100. Albot never left this place. The athlete's game went to a higher level.
Although reaching beyond the second round remained a difficult task, more and more often Radu passed the ATP qualification. In Challengers, he often played in the semi-finals. In June, the competitions in Fergana and Furst were successfully completed.
In the middle of summer, Radu received his third trophy in Poznan. Qualification for the Grand Slam, Roland Garros, Wimbledon was successful. The first round was played by a tennis player on the Grand Slam's turf.
In 2017, to maintain the rating, Albot actively participated in challengers. He managed to get through to the third round of the tournament in Antalya. After his luck at the US Open and winning in Shenzhen, Radu received a new trophy at the end of the season.
In 2018, he reached the third round at Wimbledon, New York, and advanced to the semifinals in Metz. The Chinese Challenger was won at the end of the year. For the first time in his career, Albot defeated Daniel Evans in the ATP tournament in February. After the semi-finals won in Geneva and Los Cabos, the athlete took a place in the top 50, becoming the 46th racket of the world.
The famous tennis player is in no hurry to start a family. True, in his personal life, changes took place in 2013. The young man does not part with his chosen one, Doina Charescu.
