The 2012 London Olympics kicked off on 27 July. The organizers tried to make the opening ceremony as luxurious and solemn as possible, but a few days before the event, the event had to be shortened by half an hour.
The opening ceremony of the London Olympics included such traditional stages as lighting the Olympic flame, taking an oath and a solemn parade. Since a sumptuous fireworks were also planned, the ceremony began at 21:00 local time. It was supposed to last about four hours, but after several rehearsals, the organizers realized that the show would have to be shortened. The problem was that, according to the results of the rehearsals, the event was longer than planned, and it was already too difficult to keep within the established framework.
The sudden change in the program of the opening ceremony was due to fears that Londoners and especially tourists from other cities and countries will simply not be able to get to their homes and hotels. The fact is that if the ceremony had been carried out according to the original plan, it would have lasted until a very late time, when public transport in the English capital has already stopped working. Since the grand opening was attended by several tens of thousands of people, among whom there were many who did not come by car, we had to end the ceremony as early as possible so that every visitor could get home.
Because to reduce the time spent on the traditional parade of athletes, lighting a fire, etc. was not possible, the organizers decided to make the program shorter with a stunt motorcycle show, which is not an integral part of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Also, during rehearsals, the organizers cut some moments, and as a result, the program was cut by about half an hour. As a result, the event lasted a total of about four hours, and about 80,000 people wished to see it with their own eyes.
