The 2014 Olympics is a bright page in the history of Russia. A lot of effort, time and money was spent on its organization. For the Russian national team, the Olympics were held with a record number of awards. They received medals even in those sports that were not bet on.
Volunteers are an integral part of the Olympics. Without the help of these guys, nothing would have happened. The selection of applicants began a year before the grand event. Applications for participation were accepted until March 1, 2013. Of the 180,000 applicants, only 25,000 of the best of the best needed to be selected.
The volunteer had to have leadership qualities and be able to work in a large team, understand the ideals and values of the Olympic movement.
Volunteer centers
Volunteer centers were organized throughout Russia. The applicants had to pass various tests there, showing the ability to conduct a dialogue, the ability to solve the most difficult problems and find a common language with people of all ages. Those who successfully passed the selection continued to work with experienced trainers in volunteer centers. Each participant received the necessary knowledge for successful work at the 2014 Games. Meetings of volunteers from different parts of the country were organized, educational trainings were conducted. After all these events, only the brightest memories remained. The selection was made by volunteers with an active life position, sociable and purposeful.
Only thanks to the professional help of volunteers, Russia was adequately represented to numerous guests from different countries.
Strict selection
In addition to volunteers from Russia, volunteers from other countries were able to take part in the games. All applicants have passed a serious selection and several stages of training. Foreigners had to have an idea about Russia, about the Olympic movement, knowledge of the Russian language was welcomed. There were also age restrictions. At the time of the Olympics, a person had to be over 18 years old, but less than 80. Good knowledge of the English language and the presence of such qualities as: resistance to stress, endurance, responsibility, dedication were required.
Volunteers were taught the rules of first aid, told about the history of the Olympic Games, given lessons in sports vocabulary, instructed on the rules of conduct at Olympic venues. Not only the organization and holding of the Games depended on the volunteers, but also the general atmosphere of the event, the atmosphere of celebration and cordiality. Their work formed the perception of the grandiose Games in Sochi.
