The name of the vocalist Janet (Janet) Dimech glorified the song Porque te vas. The hit was repeatedly sung in different languages by different performers. The Spanish music legend has recorded solo albums and sang in duets with such stars as Raphael, Julio Iglesias, Sacha Distel and Mocedades.
Although most of Janet Ann Dimech's songs were performed in Spanish, until the age of 12 her only language was English. The girl began to speak Spanish after 12 years.
The path to glory
The biography of the future celebrity began in 1951. The child was born in London on October 10 in the family of a Spanish woman and a Belgian. The girl spent her childhood in the USA.
She was fond of music, learned to play the guitar, wrote songs. When her daughter turned 12, her parents broke up. Together with her mother, Janet moved to Barcelona.
At the age of 17, the girl's musical career began. In 1967 she became the lead vocalist of Brenner's Folk, which later became Pic Nic. The four guys recorded the single Cállate nina. The success of the composition was incredible: for 11 weeks the song was in the lead in all the Spanish charts, became the best-selling composition.
Solo career
Fans soon got the band's new work, Amanecer / No digas nada. Me olvidaras / Él es distinto a ti with new English songs and the album Pic Nic were presented in 1968. The band disbanded in 1969.
Janet has arranged her personal life. Hungarian footballer Laszlo Christoph became her chosen one. Young people became husband and wife. Blythe's daughter was growing up in the family. After the birth of the baby, her mother decided to interrupt her career on stage, but everything turned out differently.
The vocalist's recordings delighted the management of Hispavox studio. The owner of an amazing voice was offered to perform the single Soy Rebelde. Janet did not agree immediately. The result was predictable: the song soared to the top of the charts in 1971, and entered the legendary Galas del sábado program.
At the same time, a mistake was made in the name of the performer: Janet turned into Janet. The typo gave birth to the stage name of the singer. The debut disc Palabras, promesas featured beautiful melodies, spectacular arrangements and wonderful lyrics. The inimitable vocals complemented all the splendor.
Confession
The composition "Oye mamá oye papá" became a new hit. In 1976 it became the time of a star hit. The song Porque te vas was written by composer Jose Luis Perales.
The single included in the disc of the same name instantly became popular. However, the film "Raise the Crow" brought the song the greatest fame. In the film, the composition sounded repeatedly. The painting won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. The result was the worldwide recognition of the hit and the translation of the text into many languages.
Janet continued her career. 1975 saw the release of the single Hoy nos hemos dicho adios / El mundo con amor. In 1976, the singer presented her second album, Porque te vas.
Outcomes
The star recorded a double album with compositions that sounded in both French and Spanish. The collection Todo es nuevo was completed in 1977. Since 1978, the singer has been recording songs in English, French and Spanish.
The 1981 collection Corazon de poeta was called the pinnacle of the vocalist's creativity. After the Reluz and Ojos en el sol discs, Janet did not present new compositions for five years.
Only in 1989 she presented a new work, the album of ballads Loca por la musica. With a collection of Sigo rebelde of new versions of all the hits of the performer in 1996, Janet summed up her stage career.
All her songs were distinguished by melody, soulfulness. Therefore, many of them remain popular over the years.
