It's good when from childhood you can imagine your future profession for sure, like the American actor Brian Jacob Smith. However, even in this case, fate can throw such surprises that it will not seem enough. And now the promising young actor is out of work.
Fortunately, this did not happen with Smith, and he waited for his finest hour in the project "Stargate Universe" (2009-2011). I must say that for a short period of work in the cinema, Brian managed to star in almost three dozen films, and in some he played the main roles.
In addition to the Stargate project, the following projects are considered the best series in his filmography: The Eighth Sense (2015-2018), Poirot (1989-2013), Gossip Girl (2007-2012), The Good Wife (2009-2016).
Biography
Brian Jacob Smith was born in Dallas, Texas in 1981. True, he did not stay there for long, because his family often moved from place to place. And often their path lay far from the cultural centers of the country. And none of Brian's relatives had anything to do with art, but he still gravitated towards the profession of an actor. He was especially attracted by the theater as providing an opportunity for direct contact with the audience.
Therefore, already at school, he began to try on different roles and represent himself on stage or on the set. After graduating from high school, Smith applied to Collin County Community College and was accepted into this educational institution. The training program was quite intense, but the college was located in the small town of Plano, and this left an inevitable provincial imprint on the whole study. Demanding to himself and to others, the future actor decided to find a more prestigious place and entered Columbia Stevens College. However, a year later he left from there, because the level of study did not suit him again.
Nevertheless, the young man definitely received some experience, and therefore soon became a student at the prestigious Juilliard School, which is located in New York. So the future actor found himself in the very thick of the life of a huge metropolis, which provides a lot of opportunities for development, study and work.
At the Juilliard School, Brian had a hard time - the bar was high and the students were strictly demanded. However, this is justified by the fact that there are many famous actors among the graduates of this school. This just suggests that knowledge here is of high quality. For example, Juilliard graduate actress Nicole Beharri played the role of Abby Mills in the cult project Sleepy Hollow.
So when Smith received his Bachelor of Arts in 2007, he was happy and content that he had completed all the training and did not drop out again.
Actor's career
And he could do this, because as a student he began acting in films, and the very first role was the main one. His debut took place thanks to director Tommy Stovell: he selected young people for the film "Hate Crime" (2005), and his choice fell on Brian.
The theme of the picture is prejudice against same-sex marriages and relationships. The drama highlighted the problems of people who faced rejection of their life position and negative attitude towards their sexual orientation.
Brian's character is a homosexual Trey McCoy, who lives his life in some ideal worldview. However, tragedy shatters these illusions.
The film "Hate Crime" did not receive wide recognition due to the narrow theme of the picture, but Smith's acting was appreciated by other directors and began to invite him to their projects. He worked with various actors and directors in the films Children of War (2009), Red Hook (2009) and others.
These films did not bring him success either, and Brian began to think that he had chosen the acting profession by mistake, and therefore wanted to go to serve in the army. Fortunately, he had excellent sports training and a desire to be useful.
However, this time the skill of the young actor increased significantly, because he had to play very diverse roles: a student, a scientist, a hard worker and other characters.
This circumstance helped him get into the Stargate Universe project. He no longer expected any miracle from life - and suddenly such a gift from fate! It was a real take-off in the actor's career, and Smith himself said in one of his interviews that for him it meant “moving to the big league,” in sports terms.
After the actor appeared in this project, he instantly became a celebrity. He professionally played the role of Sergeant Matthew Scott, who became the second captain of the ship, although in no way wished to do so. However, he had to take on this responsibility and do the psychologically hard work.
This success inspired the actor, and he no longer thought about leaving the profession. Moreover, the SyFy TV channel announced him as one of the most sought-after actors, and Brian began acting in a variety of TV series.
However, he was followed by a "trail" from "Stargate", and now he was invited to shoot the film "The Red Faction: Origins" (2011). The film was based on a computer game filmed by director Michael Nanjing. The fantastic thriller was a success with the audience, and Brian received love and respect from fans.
In 2012, he was finally able to break away from filming for a short while and realize his childhood dream: to go on stage in front of the audience. Smith played Andrew in the Broadway hit show "Columnist", and this project has existed for more than six months.
After that, there were many roles in films, on television and in the theater, and the actor also has enough plans for the future.
Personal life
In 2019, the actor came out as gay in an interview with Attitude magazine. Who is his partner is still unknown.
