Boris Egorov - pilot-cosmonaut, the first doctor in orbit. He made many scientific discoveries. Hero of the Soviet Union was a colonel of the medical service and doctor of medical sciences, professor. He became the only one from the Russian cosmonauts who had never been a member of the detachment formally.
Boris Egorov became the thirteenth astronaut in the world. Despite the superstition, the number became lucky for him. He has made an excellent career avoiding the controversial title of the darling of fate.
The road to destination
The future cosmonaut was born in 1937 in Moscow. The child born on November 26 was named after his father. He was known in the capital as a renowned surgeon. Boris's mother was also an ophthalmologist, one of the founders of Russian ophthalmology. She died when her son was fourteen.
Communication with my father became very difficult, and then stopped. Egorov Jr. decided to choose the future related to medicine. While studying at the 1st Moscow Medical Sechenov Institute, he became interested in studying the effect of weightlessness on human health.
The future specialist became a pioneer in the field of space medicine. After completing his studies, the young doctor fully engaged in research. Since the work was of a specific nature, the young man was offered special training.
He passed it on a par with future astronauts. He was taught to jump with a parachute, to heal in the field. The flight time of Gagarin became the first combat duty of Boris Borisovich. As part of the group, Yegorov was waiting for the return of the cosmonaut in Siberia, where the landing was planned. However, no help was required.
A year later, a recruitment was announced for the medical group. It was planned to send them into space for research on board. Egorov understood that he had few chances due to myopia. However, he was in no hurry to give up. After the first application was rejected, the determined candidate went to the head of the laboratory. Perseverance was appreciated by including the applicant in the coveted list.
Scientific activity and space flight
In 1963, the flight of the multi-seat Voskhod spacecraft was planned. The crew consisted of three specialists: a scientist, a doctor and an astronaut. Before that, only single-seat ships were sent, then they had to solve the problem of placing people. Some of the equipment was removed, and spacesuits were disposed of.
The pilots were recruited without difficulty. The choice of scientists and doctors turned out to be more difficult. There were few physically healthy candidates among them. Since 1964, Yegorov also took part in the preparation.
He had a clear advantage over other candidates. He was already the author of a dozen scientific papers, completed his Ph. D. thesis and was preparing to defend his doctoral dissertation. An additional plus was the young age and the absence of health problems with the exception of vision.
The flight took place on October 12, 1964. The doctor and scientist considered this day a turning point in his biography. The expedition lasted a day. The crew successfully completed all tasks, and all medical experiments were carried out.
Egorov received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. He never visited space again, devoting his life to researching the problems of medical biology. In 1967, Yegorov defended his doctoral dissertation. In 1984 he founded the Biomedical Technology Research Institute.
Personal life
Outwardly similar to a movie hero, a charming man was incredibly popular. His personal life has always been in the spotlight. He entered into his first marriage with his classmate Eleanor Mordvinkina. A son named Boris appeared in the family. However, the marriage quickly fell apart. Subsequently, the son of an outstanding figure became a businessman.
The famous actress Natalya Fateeva became the new chosen one of the doctor. The entire press followed the life of the bright couple. Of the pictures have often appeared in magazines. A child, daughter Natasha, was born in the family in 1969. Natalya Borisovna studied languages. In 1971, the relationship became complicated. The husband and wife decided to leave.
The ex-husband began an affair with Natalia Kustinskaya. Together with the actress, he lived for two decades. The cosmonaut adopted the son of Kustinskaya from Dmitry's previous marriage. Subsequently, he graduated from MGIMO. The couple divorced in 1991. Egorov was credited with an affair with the presenter Valentina Leontyeva, but the facts were not confirmed.
The cosmonaut remarried almost immediately after parting with his ex-wife. His chosen one Tatiana Vuraki is a dentist. Egorov lived with her until he died.
Hobbies and hobbies
The astronaut and scientist was fond of cars. One of the first wasps in the country became the owner of a foreign car "Buick Electra". The scientist was an excellent driver, he loved fast driving. At forty, he struck loved ones with a new hobby. Egorov took up motocross. The astronaut assembled all motorcycles for racing with his own hands.
Because of the problems and funding that began in the eighties, the scientist went into business. Entrepreneurship turned out to be heavier than space overload. Health was undermined. Increasingly, the scientist complained of his heart.
The doctors insisted on immediate treatment. However, Egorov was discouraged by urgent matters and constantly postponed hospitalization. The result was a heart disease that led to the death of the astronaut on September 12, 1994.
Boris Borisovich was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star. In honor of the pilot and doctor, he named one of the lunar craters and an asteroid. Kamyshin Street, a city in the Volgograd Region, is named after Yegorov.
It is located not far from the street named after Konstantin Feoktistov, a partner of the astronaut, doctor and scientist on a significant flight.
