After the script is approved, you need to make a storyboard - a frame-by-frame image of the actions in the video. This helps to graphically depict an idea of a future project. The main benefit of a storyboard is that you can make changes to it, which is not possible when shooting.

Instructions

Step 1

The storyboard is a bit like comics. But unlike them, you don't need to be a professional artist to create a storyboard. You may not be able to draw at all. It's okay if people are depicted in the form of sticks with circles instead of heads, and the illustrations only remotely resemble the real landscape. The main thing is to correctly identify their location in relation to the camera: front view, top view, and so on. First, decide what scenes you want to portray. It is necessary not only to cut off the excess, but also, of course, add. Draw to a minimum, do not clutter. Of course, you want something special, but all the special effects, explosions and the like can be added at the end of the painting. When you have clearly defined in what sequence and how best your idea is revealed, think about where close-up is appropriate and where is general. Understand what each scene is for. Make sure the frames are arranged in the right order to reveal an idea, motive, or show the development of an action.

Step 2

Make it easier for yourself in the future, describe the operation of the camera on paper. Add movement to your drawing. use the arrows to indicate in which direction the camera should move. Think about lighting, a place for a microphone. see how individual episodes will look like, complement or contradict each other. On each picture, mark sound effects, dialogues, because sound is an integral part of the video. All of this will complete your picture. Add additional explanations if necessary.

Step 3

Every time you draw a storyboard, you are immersed in the future of the video, thinking over each frame individually and their sequence. It is useful as a basis, although the film itself rarely turns out exactly as intended. Storyboarding is time consuming and a process with many steps. But it will save you time and effort on set.
