Australian actor Richard Roxburgh is well aware of the difficulties and obstacles on the way to an acting career. Starting with episodes and supporting roles, he achieved worldwide recognition and the opportunity to work alongside Hollywood stars in cult films.
Richard Roxburgh was born in 1962 in the Australian state of South Wales, in the city of Albury. The actor recalls that he had absolutely no craving for acting as a child. He went to school, played sports, met friends, and he had the same dreams and aspirations.
Therefore, after school, he went to study to be an economist. And only when I graduated from the university, I realized what he really wanted. However, the path to an actor's career was closed - the education did not match. Then Richard entered the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts in the Australian capital Sydney. He graduated from this educational institution quite successfully, so he was immediately hired to work in the theater, where he served for several months. His real dream was related to cinema.
Actor's career
When he was almost twenty-five years old, he made his film debut - it was a small role, followed by more significant roles. In his portfolio Roxburgh then placed the paintings "The Paper Man", "Horror in the Amusement Park" and "Deaf to the World." These were works of the second plan, the films did not go outside Australia, but it was noticeable with what dedication the young actor worked, how he invested in each episode.
Therefore, he did not have to wait long for success: in 1995 he received the Australian Silver Logie Award, and then another AFI Award for his successful role in the television series Blue Murder. And the picture "Children of the Revolution" was released worldwide, and brought Roxburgh world fame and experience working with celebrities Judy Davis and Sam Neal.
Further film career went only uphill: Richard was waiting for the main role in the film "A Good Day for Patsy Cline", a duet with Cate Blanchett in the melodrama "Oscar and Lucinda" and an Oscar nomination for her role in this tape; role in the blockbuster "Mission: Impossible-2", where he collaborated with Tom Cruise. It was Hugh Stump's role in Mission … that brought him worldwide fame.
He is very good at the role of villains: the duke in the musical "Moulin Rouge", the real villain in the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", Count Dracula in the action movie "Van Helsing". The latter work became the most significant in Richard's career. He happened to work on the same site with Kate Bessinger, Hugh Jackman and David Wenham.
The best in his filmography today are considered to be the paintings "Reading Thoughts", "For reasons of conscience", "Legends of the Night Guards" and the series "Blonde".
Personal life
Acting life presupposes rotation in certain circles and acquaintances mainly in one's own environment. Therefore, Richard knew that his wife would be an actress. For some time he met with colleague Miranda Otto, but their relationship did not end in marriage.
On the set of Van Helsing, Richard met American actress Sylvia Collock and they began dating. In 2004 they got married and are still happy together. Two children are growing up in the Roxburgh family: the elder Raphael Domenico Roxburgh and the younger Miro David Roxburgh.
