The beginning of the creative path

The future famous artist was born on April 6 in 1923 in Kostroma. The boy dreamed of an acting career since childhood. However, his plans did not come true due to the outbreak of the war.

In August 1941, the young man was drafted into the army. He graduated from a military school in 1942. After that, Ordynsky went to fight.

Vasily Sergeevich commanded a platoon in a mortar company as part of a special purpose battalion. The future artist fought at the First Belorussian and Voronezh fronts. During the battles, Ordynsky was seriously wounded.

He ended the war in Germany. For front-line services, Vasily Sergeevich was awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War of the first degree.

Ordynsky was demobilized in 1948. Even during the battles, Vasily did not forget about his dreams of cinema. But he did not decide on an acting career.

He entered the VGIK at the directing department, deciding to create a movie. After graduating from 1954 in the studio of Gerasimov and Makarova, Ordynsky made his debut in the short film "Trouble". The premiere went unnoticed.

The first significant work was the film "A Man Was Born". The picture became the leader of the box office: it was watched by about thirty million people.

First works

The melodrama based on the script by Agranovich tells about a girl who came to conquer the capital, Nadezhda Smirnova. She did not pass the exams at the institute, but she met a Muscovite Vitaly.

The girl fell in love with a young man from an intelligent family. Soon Nadia realized that she was expecting a baby. Vitaly left her. The people around Nadya helped to overcome the difficulties.

This was followed by the popular films "Four", "Peers", "First Love", "Clouds over Borsk". Vladimir Vysotsky made his film debut in Ordynsky's "Companions". He played in the episode and is not credited.

The director did not receive any awards for his work, but the film became one of the most beloved by the audience. The most famous film by Ordynsky as a director was the 1977 film adaptation of Alexei Tolstoy's work "Walking through the agony".

The film history tells about four representatives of the intelligentsia who found themselves in the whirlpool of civil war and revolution. Two sisters Bulavins, Dasha and Katya, their chosen ones, Ivan Telegin, who became the commander of the Red Army, and officer Vadim Telegin are shown in different circumstances.

Sometimes the director himself starred in episodic roles in his films. Ordynsky played in "The Fires of Baku", "Shield and Sword".

The 1984 war drama "Through All the Years" became the final work of the master. Olga Bityugova played the main role in the film.

According to the plot, while still at school, Sasha Demin fell in love with Vassa Druzhinina. The girl reciprocated. Due to the unfair accusation of Vassa's father, she had to leave her hometown in the thirties.

The lovers managed to find each other, but the war separated them again until the victorious spring of 1945. Both met in Germany and immediately got married. In the morning, Vassa died.

Recognition and awards

In 1965 the stage director himself became an Honored Art Worker. Nine years later he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation.

For the film "At Your Threshold" the director received an Honorary Diploma in 1964. Based on real events, the film tells about the defense of Moscow by anti-aircraft gunners. A monument was erected to them in Lobnya.

Three years later, at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival, the director's work won the same award for the project "If Your Home Is Dearest to You."

1982 brought the director a special prize and the Prize of the Ministry of Defense for a tape dedicated to the joint struggle of the peoples of the USSR and Mongolia against the imperialist forces.

Family matters

In contrast to the film activity, the family did not develop so cloudlessly. The first wife of Ordynsky in 1953 was Lyudmila Gurchenko.

The wife was twelve years younger than her husband. The wedding took place in secret: Lyudmila Markovna did not tell anything about her, even to her close friends.

The actress never advertised her first marriage and in every possible way hid its existence. According to her friends, marriage has become an easy way for a novice performer to gain fame.

Ordynsky really tried to remove the chosen one in his film "A Man Was Born". However, the artistic council did not like her candidacy. They insisted on choosing another main character. But Gurchenko voiced the main character of the picture.

A rather unusual marriage lasted just over a year. Lyudmila Markovna was upset that she would not receive any roles in her husband's films. Ordynsky considered his wife a talented dramatic actress and persuaded her to wait in the wings. However, Gurchenko decided to end the relationship.

Vasily Sergeevich married again Marianne Rooz. She worked as an editor for Mosfilm. The wedding took place in 1964. A child appeared in the family.

The daughter was named Catherine. The girl got a small role in the film of her father, "Walking through the agony". However, Katya did not want to continue the dynasty and did not become an actress.
