Power is the right and the ability to compel people to perform certain actions, duties, often contrary to their wishes. Such coercion can take many forms: from rather mild, democratic methods to downright rude, authoritarian and even criminal ones. The highest form of power is the state in the form of an administrative and political apparatus. And the first power appeared in ancient times, back in the days of the primitive communal system.

Step 1
Stone Age man was practically helpless before the forces of nature. In order to survive, he had to act in concert with other people. Only in this way did the ancient people have a chance to protect themselves from predators or to get food on the hunt. But for joint activities to be successful, it was necessary to coordinate common efforts. That is, someone had to lead the work of all members of the tribal community. Such a leader was usually the most experienced and skilled hunter or elder, who knew a lot and was able to do so. He distributed duties, monitored their implementation, punished negligent or inept relatives. This is how the first rudiments of power appeared.
Step 2
With the passage of time, ancient people learned to use fire, to make better tools for labor and hunting, and mastered agriculture. Now they hunted more game, harvested crops. They often had surpluses of products, products from skins, which had to be protected from other tribal communities that were not so successful in hunting and farming or living in less favorable areas. This required military leaders - leaders with great power. The leader had the right to order, as well as severely punish a coward or disobedient.
Step 3
Subsequently, a gradual transition from the clan community to the neighboring community began. Now people did not live under the same roof in a large common house or in the same cave, did not go hunting, fishing or field work together. However, they still often needed protection from hostile neighbors. There might also be a need for emergency general work (eg, in a natural disaster). And for this, power was needed, to which all members of the community obeyed. Therefore, the role of the leader has become even more significant. Moreover, this position often became hereditary, passing from father to son.
Step 4
After the collapse of the primitive communal system, with the further growth of production, a need arose for the state as a management apparatus, which establishes general rules for all occasions and monitors their implementation. This is how state power appeared.
