Most people in Russia know that the Mint is in charge of issuing money. All this is true, but the issue of a banknote is preceded by a long procedure: the development of a sketch of a paper bill or coin, the selection of the appropriate paper or alloy of metals, the development of a system for protecting future money.
Ivan Dubasov, unfortunately, passed away in 1976, was the founder of the creation of sketches of Russian money. He was an artist with a pronounced talent who spent his entire life creating sketches of banknotes for the Soviet Union.
Apolitical artist
At one time, parents, who noticed the inclinations of an artist in their son's drawings, decided to send him to study at the Stroganov Art School, which was under the tutelage of His Imperial Majesty. Upon graduation, Ivan Dubasov received a diploma and the title of draftsman.
I. Dubasov was a deeply apolitical person, and, nevertheless, took part in the competition organized to mark the fifth anniversary of the October Revolution. According to the terms of the competition, it was required to make a sketch of a stamp in honor of this event. I. Dubasov became the winner of this competition.
After the competition, I. Dubasov was invited to the State Sign, where he was offered to create a sketch of the coat of arms of the country of the Soviets. The work was carried out in an emergency mode, since the adoption of the new Constitution was supposed, and according to the position, the coat of arms should be displayed in it. So at twenty-six years old I. Dubasov became the author of the Coat of Arms of the Soviet Union. The coat of arms existed until the collapse of the USSR.
On the day Lenin died, Dubasov was asked, again in a hurry, to create a mourning stamp. Dubasov created a commemorative stamp, which today has become the dream of every philatelist.
From monetary models to state awards
One of the most significant achievements of I. Dubasov is the creation of the Order of Lenin, which was the highest award of the USSR, and was created by Dubasov in the conditions of evacuation. I. Dubasov himself for the creation of this sketch was also awarded the highest distinction of the USSR.
After the end of the war, on the instructions of Stalin, Dubasov began to develop sketches of banknotes for the newly formed socialist countries. So sketches of money for Czechoslovakia, Albania, China and the GDR were created. In these countries, money created according to Dubasov's sketches had been circulating for several decades.
Since the 20s of the last century, I. Dubasov took part in the development of sketches of money for the USSR several times: during the monetary reform in 1947, during the Khrushchev reform of 1961. For his many years of fruitful work, the artist Ivan Dubasov was awarded state awards - the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner.
