The television series "Defective Detective" is one of the most popular detective television shows, in which viewers are attracted not only by the complexity and consistency of the crimes solved, but also by the paradoxical personality of the protagonist, the former police officer Adrian Monk.
Original detective
The detective genre does not suffer from a lack of popularity, and, naturally, enjoys constant attention from the scriptwriters of television shows. However, a huge number of monotonous main characters, distinguished by their incredible intelligence and insight, beauty, wealth and a complete lack of flaws, are somewhat boring to the audience. Having caught the change in trends in time, screenwriter Andy Breckman created a fundamentally new version of the detective series, in which the main character is a person who is practically helpless in real life, who nevertheless has an incredible talent for investigating crimes.
The total number of phobias of Adrian Monk is 312. Among them are both common fears of heights or darkness, and exotic, for example, anxiety about microbes.
Defective Detective (originally titled Monk) is considered a comedy series, but in reality, the issues raised in it do not always make the viewer laugh. In the end, most of the episodes are devoted to investigating murders, and the main plotline of the TV show, concerning the death of the protagonist's wife, is also quite dark and tragic. However, there are plenty of funny moments in the series, and most of them are related to the personal problems of Adrian Monk.
Main character defects
The plot of the story is that one of the San Francisco police officers, detective Adrian Monk, lost his wife, who became the victim of a contract murder. Her car was blown up, and Monk believed Trudy died by mistake, and the bomb was actually intended for him. The worries caused him a severe nervous breakdown, as a result of which Adrian left the service and did not leave the house at all for more than three years. Nurse Sharona Fleming, who looked after him, was eventually able to get Monk to go out, but due to obsessive phobias that haunt him, Adrian Monk is still unable to lead a fulfilling life on his own.
However, Monk starts working as a private detective and police consultant. His former colleagues, led by Police Captain Leland Stottlmeier, treat Adrian with a mixture of admiration and bewilderment, not always understanding the detective's train of thought and motives. Sharona Fleming also takes an active part in the investigations, playing, in addition to being a nurse, the role of Monk's assistant. Solving crime after crime, Adrian does not lose hope of finding the murderer of his wife, but the clue always eludes him.
The leading actor, Tony Shaloub, has received several Screen Actors Guild Awards, Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.
The series is distinguished by a rather light atmosphere, where sadness is diluted with completely non-vulgar humor, so it is suitable, among other things, for family viewing. In addition, an undoubted advantage can be considered the fact that the viewer is given the opportunity to solve the crime himself, since all the clues are in plain sight. This sets the TV series apart from many other detective shows, in which the correct answer is often hidden until the very end of the episode to maintain plot tension. The TV show aired for 8 seasons from 2002 to 2009.
